this and that some OT some not

Well, DD started college today. She's staying at home at least this first year and going to the University of Arkansas. It's 20 minutes away. :)

I still cried. lol

Peach season has been in full swing out here. I've been making and canning peach jam. mmmmmmm hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyytttttttttttttttttthh (Tickles the Kitty says hello!) And today I made some pear butter. Next week the apples will be coming in so that will be time for apple butter. If you don't hear from me for a while........ lol

In the sewing room, I've just about got the t-shirt to romper licked. ;) I will get pictures and post them as soon as it goes in the mail. I forgot to take pictures as I went along, but I will 'splain how I did it. I have also been doing alterations and mending. Mended a canvas boat cover last week. That was interesting. ;) (was for my wonderful neighbors, and they helped "wrangle" it.) I also need to get up some pictures of the summer tops I've been making myself. Love the pattern so much, I have made 2 and have fabric for 2 more. ;)

Oh!!! Our local Wal-Mart is remodeling. I was Scared!!! BUT!!!!!!! I was in there one morning and waylaid one of the managers who is in from corp. They are NOT taking the fabric dept. out of this store, and they are NOT going to pre-cut/packaged yardage. He said they tried that in some stores, and I cut him off mid-word and told him how HORRIBLE that mess is. He said that was the general reaction from customers. (heh heh)

They do have some fabrics marked way down, just to snag attention as people walk by the new fabric dept, that is way out of the way from the old one. I scored some really nice interlock knit. Feels like 100% cotton, or close to it. Have not burn tested yet. Periwinkle blue...my fave. :) 60" wide. It was 50¢/yard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIFTY CENTS PER YARD!!!!!! My eyeballs popped out of my head like Daffy Duck. There were 6 yards on the bolt and I bought the whole thing. (Jammies are at the top of the list. Maybe a gown and jammies. (maybe even with RUFFLES, Beverly!!! lol))

That's all the news what's fit to print. :)

I'm impressed. Jam's , fruit butters my favs. Love those fruit butters. SEsnding a child off to college sewing, getting buys on fabrics. You have been a very busy person. Sound like tons of fun. If you ever have any left over fruit butters, you know my address. You're welcome to hand deliver and I'll feed you well. Juno

My local Wal-mart put all of their pre-cut, packaged fabric in the clearance aisle last week. Obviously, it didn't sell well. I picked up a 6 -yard quilt kit with pattern for $17.00. I know, just what I needed! They had also marked down all the kits for purses, totes, scrubs, aprons and PJ bottoms.

Sound like a score to me. A q: though. IS it fire retardant, or is that no longer an issue with kids' sleepwear?

Alex, who hasn't kept up. It used to be mandatory in hospitals.

"The rules cover all children's sleepwear above size 9 months and up to size 14 and require that [...]" I'm pretty sure Sharon is not making sleepwear for children, she likes ruffles for herself.

I soooo understand. The June older DD finished high school, she immediately married and moved 300 miles away with DSIL. I was sobbing as they drove off down the street. She enrolled in the local community college, and eventually finished her degree at PSU when they moved back here after a couple of years in eastern OR.

You were making a baby's romper out of a sports team T-shirt as I recall. Nifty!

Just be sure you keep those danged ruffled nightgowns in Arkansas, missy! :-D

I know!!! That's what I said! Seems like I was doing up her pigtails last week. :( But she's turning into an amazing young woman. Mama's so proud. ;)

Ohmygosh!!! I would have been sobbing too. I'm selfish enough to be glad she's going to U of A and staying home. She didn't move to TX like one of her friends. And she didn't move 3 hours away like several other of her friends. And her best friend, who I love like he's my third child, is also staying home and going to U of A. So I don't have to be without either of them. At least this year. And I keep telling myself that. ;)

Well, it's a plain t-shirt that I embroidered with a logo for a band and then made into the romper. Will hopefully be finishing that up today.

Just have to WATER the garden and yard first. *sigh* Water used to fall out of the sky, but hasn't in over a month.

You are becoming so staid, Beverly. LOL!!!!!!! (like that would EVER happen!!!!)

I'm sure it's not flame retardant. But that isn't an issue for me. My kids are 14 and 18. And the fabric is for ME anyway!!!! It's MINE I tell you, all MINE!!!!! MINE MINE MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*ahem*

Sorry. Got a little carried away there for a second. ;)

;P Some of us do like a little ruffle here and there, Beverly. lol (actually I'm not much of a ruffle girl either. But I'm not vehemently opposed to them either.)

Thank you very much. If the human vacuum cleaner (aka DS) leaves any jars, I do still have your address. ;) The peach jam turned out really well if I do say so myself. It's yummy.

Some of us are well past the age where ruffle are "cute". I liked ruffles well enough when I was young and slim, and didn't mind the extra width... ;-}

Be careful what you wish for. We kiddingly told younger DD that since her sister married at 17, she would have to wait until she was at least 30. Well, the right guy didn't come along until she was 34! ;-}

I was very happy that younger DD attended Lewis & Clark college here in town. She lived on campus her first three years, but moved home and commuted her senior year to save $$$$.

Pics???

We have had a wonderful August, just hot enough, with only a couple of days with light rain. 'Course, now that I'm planning to go to the beach Saturday with older DD and family the weather is turning fall-like. :-(

Harrumph!!! Whatever can you mean???

Pleats! How could I ever forget pleats? A ruffler attachment will make the cutest little tiny pleats.

I'll keep that in mind if ever I make a doll kilt. ;->
