threading beaded lace with ribbon

Anyone have any tips on threading ribbon into "beaded" (?) lace without it turning over? Any special tricks to keep the ribbon straight while pulling it through the lace? I've tried smaller ribbon, but that doesn't seem to work.

You might try using a crochet hook to pull it through each opening, rather than a bodkin or safety pin to run it through the whole length. Using a crochet hook seems to work better for me on things like that.

Whatcha making?? :)

I use a big blunt darning needle. I think the trick is to have the ribbon flat, right side up to start and make sure the ribbon isn't twisted or twisting as you pull it through. The twist comes when you either roll the needle or bodkin while pulling, or the ribbon yet to be pulled has twisted before it threads into the beading. Patience, Grasshopper.

Thank you!

I'm making pillowcases for my mum. They have an embroidered pattern in the center, with the ribbon/lace near the edge. I found some quilt lace (it was called that at the store) which is a cotton lace with a bias tape edge to bind it to something and that is along the bottom.

I'm on the "downhill slide" for Christmas present-making, and hope to get started on those shades soon, so I'll probably be emailing you.

I realized the problem was that the ribbon was still on the roll and I was twisting it. I would thread a bunch of it on the needle (I was using a plastic darning needle for mending knits, then a bodkin) then pull it through. Also, I think the ribbon was a little too small for the lace as it would turn easily. Thanks for the tip, Watah!
