Threads magazine

I remember fabulous *current* projects on the back... 10 years ago or so. One costumer (does the local ballet) I know subscribe{s,e} to it. ISTR a "knit" wire decoration that was unbelievable.

Sometimes the articles in recent issues are of some interest ... but the color schemes are usually repellant.

Will have to look at the back of current issues. Would certainly miss the vintage, I remember some of those too.

I was recently considering getting a new Threads subscription, but, now reading these posts, I am glad I didn't. I have a stack of issues from the early 1990's that I still love with articles on a wide variety of topics. I am sorry to hear they dropped so many features. What a disappointment!

The vintage was always the first thing I looked at. I miss it a lot.

Not long ago, I sent Threads a complimentary letter on some of the more recent articles. I also asked if they might do an article about a very specific thing that I've never seen covered in detail--- and I have ALL the issues as an original subscriber. I received two responses. The first was a list of references that purportedly addressed my request with a bit of a snarky "reminder" that they'd already covered that topic numerous times. Problem is that none of the references addressed my request. All they did was a word search (which I had already done on their web site) and then sent me those article refs. without having a clue whether it really covered what I asked.

The second response was an email only *hours* before publication time telling me that unless they heard from me right away, that parts of my letter would be printed in the next issue. By the time I read my email, it was too late to respond. I didn't mind, of course, but it was the principle of the thing. And, NTS, they only published the complimentary part of my letter and not my request. I still consider Threads a really fabulous resource, possibly the best for sewing. But I feel they gave my request really short shrift while taking advantage of my compliments.

Hang on for a few more months... they just got a brand new head honcho editor, and it'll take several issues for the new "identity" to shake out a bit. Lead time for the two feature articles I know of was about

8 months, so I suspect we won't see the full effect for a year or so.

I liked the new issue (linen gauze on back cover) better than most recent issues. The double fabric article might be personally useful, the fuse-your-own fabric adapts to make certain current trim I've seen, and the color schemes were better.
