Ties

Thanks in advance for any help. I have made a headboard/wall sham for a

double bed in a guest room. Basically just made a giant pillowcase for

2 euro pillows and sewed down the center to keep them in place. I would like to hang this on the wall behind the bed so it can come off when it needs to. Every time I try to make ties they turn out horrible so I was going to use ribbon.(I am out of the fabric anyway so

it's a given on this project, unless it won't work with ribbon) I'm thinking wood knobs like that open cabinets for hangers. But I am concerned those will not stick out far enough and the whole thing will be very out of balance. It's about 52 inches wide in total.

How wide a ribbon? Also how many ties/hangers should I use? How and where should I put the ties?

Why not just sew some rings on the back of the sham that will fit over the knobs of your choice? You could sew them a little way down the back of the sham so they don't show from the front when it's on the bed. You could use brass or maybe plastic rings like those that hold up shower curtains. Bit hard withoiut pictures I guess.

I just saw something like this on tv, but it was with chair cushions. They used a black, decorative curtain rod and tied the cushions to the rod. It looked great!

I actually had thought of that but I am worried that if the person wants to lean back on the cushions and read etc they will get stabbed by the hangers/knobs if they are not up hgihg enough. I like your idea of using rings though. maybe use rings to attach the ties to the cushions for a better hold.

I saw that too, I think it was Small Space, Big Style. I loved the idea!

I could be wrong about which show it was on, there are probably 20 decorating/renovating shows that I watch and I get them mixed up alot.

(unless its with colin and justin... Just LOVE them! DH doesn't understand...)

I hope you can come up with a good idea because I have a bed without a headboard and would like to do something similar. I stayed in a motel a few years ago where the headboard was screwed to the wall instead of the bed.

Anyway, I was wondering if a curtain rod could be used but it would have to be attached to the wall using those plastic anchors so it wouldn't pull out easily. I read in bed, leaning on pillows piled up behind me, and I am sure there would be some strain on the pillows caused by moving around. If the rod was just high enough to clear the top of the pillows it might not hurt your back if the pillows were thick enough.

Please let me know if you come up with anything.

I am thinking of sew on rings, then some type of wide ribbon, then using the wooden peg hangers like this; (but a new one or 2)

I am mounting the hanger(s) onto knotty pine panneling since thisis for the quest house. I imagine you are right and would have to usewall anchors for sheetrock or plaster. unless you could screw into thestud.
