ATD -at the doctor. BFF -best friend fell. BTW -bring the wheelchair. BYOT -bring your own teeth. FWIW -forgot where I was. GGPBL -gotta go, pacemaker battery low. GHA -got heartburn again. IMHAO -is my hearing aid on? LMDO -laughing my dentures out. OMMR -on my massage recliner. ROFLACGU -rolling on floor laughing and can't get up. TTYL -talk to you louder!
For the record, I don't text, either. However, I do understand that sometimes you want to leave someone a short message that they don't have to go to voice mail to get, something they can read at work or wherever they may be that talking on the phone is not an option, and I do not mean while driving. I would take the trouble to learn how to do it except that my phone deal is a super-cheap one and if I use it to call or text during certain hours, it will cost me a bunch. My cell is strictly a security blanket. Along with my AAA card. After all, I spend very little time away from home, and we have a landline.
My feeling is that teens use texting to exchange nefarious info without worrying about adults overhearing it. BIICBW.
I do have my cell phone on while driving, but I also have a very good Bluetooth device which pairs perfectly and has decent sound quality (so my callees tell me).
I am grandmothered into a very reasonable plan which I bought in '95 when we moved my DMIL here. I was reluctant to be out of touch with her even for a short time, so I programmed the land-lines with the cell number so she could always reach me.
My DH was on it, and I added a phone for my DD for just $10.00/month. Later we added her new DH for another $10.00/month. Of course the plan has undergone several iterations of merges and take-overs, but my low cost plan survives. The kids voluntarily over-pay me for their share, which makes my portion cheap. ;-)
Yeah, cell phone, AAA card, Mini-Leatherman tool, Mace... never leave the house without them. ;->
