Totally OT Springdale, Arkansas

Ok. Who's in/around Springdale/Fayetteville?

DH just accepted a job that will move us there probably end of summer. He will be starting the job much sooner than that, but we want to let the kids finish out the school year here. If we can time everything just right, we ought to get out there just shortly before school starts. ;)

Questions:

First and foremost....fabric shops???? ;)

Also, wondering about schools. I've done some research online, and talked with an assistant superintendent for Springdale Public Schools. That answered a lot of questions I have. But, any moms out there? What's the "inside skinny" on schools. I'm looking mainly at Springdale and Fayetteville. I want to get the kids into a somewhat larger school corp. than what we have here. Either of them would fill that need. I figured a slightly larger school corp would make it easier to be the new kid. Too I know there is a ton of growth in the area, so they won't be the only new kids. That's a good thing. DD will be in 8th and DS will be in 4th in the Fall.

Thanks!

Kids took the news very well. I was expecting tears from DD, but she surprised me and took it all in stride. ;) I told her we are going to look at this as a grand adventure. I'm very excited. We've been shooting for

1/2 between his family and mine. We've always lived much, much closer to mine. But his folks are going to retire in a couple more years. So now would be a good time to get within a day's drive of them. (two very long days now.) This will do that for us. Also, it's a step up for DH. That's never a bad thing. :) And I will get a whole new house to decorate. lol

I knew as soon as we finished the basement here, he would find something. lol I wasn't wrong. Finished the basement the end of January. ;)

Congratulations! Now, start slowly boxing up your stash, and labelling the boxes as something else entirely, so that when moving day comes he won't realise *quite* the extent of the problem and try and make you chuck any of it away.

Hi Neighbor!! I live in Bella Vista, AR...not far from Springdale. You are right, this is a growing area, expecially North of Springdale. As you already know I'm sure, the University of Arkansas is in Fayetteville, just a few minutes South of Springdale. You will be in a developed area, but just a short drive to nice woodsy parks and etc. All these towns abutt each other. The schools are pretty good here.....not #1, but they seem to do well by the kids.

We have Hancock, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, and several small quilt shops around.

If I can help, contact my email andI will be happy to tell you more!

Well Sharon, That oughtto keep you busy for awhile. Packing, getting a new house, finding new fabric stores. Good thing Pat will be close by for you, to help you along. Exciting times ahead for the Hayes Family. Good Luck to all of you. Just be sure you keep us posted to all your changes. Juno

Another boxing tip is pack books in with your valuables (to add weight) and then mark them "books." Thieves steal valuables, but not books.

Don't forget to put your stash in plastic bags and vacuum them shut, then tie them up. Takes up lots less space and your DH will never know........(maniacle laugh a-hah-ha-ha-ha)

Congratulations, Sharon! I had hoped DH would accept the position in TX, so we'd be nearer but the Fayetteville area is beautiful, and I'm certain you will like it. Emily

Emily, I'd arm-wrestle you for Sharon! I wish she was moving to Virginia, but this move sounds like a good thing for her little family. . Maybe we should arrange a 'fabric' house-warming; the postal variation, 'Drive-By Fabric Gifting'. Just in case her H demands she lighten the load before moving day. Loved the vacuum space-bag idea, Michelle, it's worth stealing for sewing room storage. Cea

Hi, Sharon, Congratulations! My best friend used to live in Rogers. I really like it there. I went back last year and all those towns have kind of run together. Springdale, Bentonville, Rogers. I went to a really neat little quilt shop in Rogers, don't remember the name. Rogers has a great little downtown. A neat Tea Room with WONDERFUL orange rolls.

I'd have to say, I vote for Rogers.

Another perk is that housing and the cost of just about everything is probably cheaper than you are used to!

I'm about 2 hours north and west in SE Kansas.

I can't comment on schools for you as I live in Australia but it sounds like you're about to embark on a wonderful adventure so enjoy it. Think of all the wonderful sewing and other home projects that await!

Congratulations on the new adventure. I'd only suggest one thing (especially since I don't live in the area): don't wait till the last minute before school starts to move. Give the kids a chance to make a neighbor or church friend or something before the first day of school. They will feel better knowing at least one person. Gail
