Tough Fabric for Grocery Bags?

I bet the "just beginning" part is because IIRC San Francisco has outlawed the use of disposable plastic bags. Most stores I know of have been selling reusable shopping bags for quite a while, and the oldest one I have that is not from the now-defunct Berkeley Co-Op is a grocery store one that is about 15 years old.

I have a tote bag I got from the Statue of Liberty souvenir store that is made from recycled plastic soda bottles and is sort of like a poplin or kettle cloth, and I would LOOOOVE to find that fabric available by the yard to use to make my own things. If you happen to find anything like that, please let us know!

Different strokes...

I hate having store baggers help me load stuff -- they move WAAAY too fast for me.

I wonder if they have the same policy at their Snob Hill stores, of which there is one 3 miles away.

Raley's, Nob Hill and BelAir are the same company.

I made this pattern years ago

Hallo All I would like to share with you an idea for a ball/ bag or bag/ball , i crochet Have some Cotton and matching hook. I will use American terms. Make 1 circle by making aring of 4-6 chains, close into ring. now make 12 DC into the ring, and 2 dc into each , [ 24 dc in second round ]. Third round agin make 2 dc into each = [48 dc].

4th round make *2 dc into 1st dc, 1 dc into 2nd dc* until end of round ,[72 dc] Now make 14 dc on the side, turn make 3ch skip 1 dc , make 10 dc skip idc, and make last dc into last dc of ofrmer row. turn. 3ch, skip 1 dc , make 8 , skip 1dc , finnish with 1 dc into last dc . turn , chain 3, skip 1 dc, 2dc , chain and skip 1 dc, 2 dc skip 1dc , make last dc into last of former row, cut thread, make a second circle , but NOT the 14 dc. put circles together and start at side of Flap [ of 14 dc] catch 1 loop each of first circle , and 1 loop of second circle. cahin 5 skip a loop , catch third loopof both circles , chain 5 , skip loop ..... until you get to the other side of the Flap , there you have to make the Chain 5 , skip loop * on the edge of the circle, Now you can go on making the NET [=bag ] make several roundsof chain 5 on middle of chain 5 loop of previous round , after 3 rounds change to chain 6 [ 2 rounds , and than to chain 7, work bag until it is long enough or wide enough , one can add some loops here and there on one loop and by this widen the bag,,, now make around that will be the same number of your last dc loop but make this round of dc, , fold bag inbto 2 and into 4 , make a crocheted handles from one 1/4 point to the other 1/4 point . It is a bag[ net for shopping , But if you do not want it for shopping take the bottom flap open it , and Push the net into this pocket ,sew a little button so that the flap row with the hole will close on it , Now it is a small ball you can push in your pocket, and when you shop you have the net , hope this is clear enough , happy crochet mirjam

Randall's here will also do the same, but I haven't found a store to send a sacker, as they're called here, to send one home yet. Oh well, I guess DS & I do need a little exercise. One of my sisters lived in a small town & the store not only delivered her goods to her home, but the young man would come in and put everything away for her. Emily

I would think I'd died and gone to heaven!! Actually, my DH usually carries everything in for me. If he isn't around and I have too much to bring in, I have a little cart with special wheels that will go up the stairs. It used to be a lot easier to carry groceries up those stairs and into the house....but something happened....

I know, but I am not sure if all the stores have the same policy.

Just went to the web site - they only have one site -

I tried to find a "Nob Hill" and a "BelAir" site, but it goes right back to

So I suspect they're fairly uniform. I signed up for the email coupons - some of them are really good. My favorites are the $20 off on $100 or $10 off $50 worth of groceries, but they don't have it very often.

Which also describes Owen's, our local Kroger store. (Kroger bought out Owen's -- and closed the Kroger store.) The only time I took them up on the offer to help carry my purchases out was when I'd volunteered my pickup truck to pick up stuff for a church event. (I got into the truck bed and the bagger handed stuff up to me.)

My late mother-in-law, on the other hand, did all her trading at Kroger because they would put her groceries into the car for her.
