Treadle machine finally working!

I just wanted to let everyone know that my Singer 15-88 is finally up and running! A good cleaning and threading the needle right to left instead of left to right is all it needed! (Big thanks to Kate Dicey for mentioning that somewhere on her website! That was the major hurdle for me)

She does beautiful stitches, I am so happy! Although I never realized how sore my legs would be lol. I can't seem to use both legs though.

Thanks very much to everyone who helped me get her going! I am going to do some work on one of my clients bridesmaids gown this afternoon on her!

I think she needs a name........I want to name her pearl or rose.....but everytime I look at her I think "Bertha".

Thanks again!

That way you're ... how to explain this? Walking, rather than jumping up and down with both feet off the ground at the same time. Strewth - only been doing it since I was about 10, why is it so hard to describe?

"She who would like to be obeyed once every Preston Guild"

That is perfectly explained. I tried that and it worked just fine.......although still a little akward.

Thanks very much!

YW. Just keep shifting your feet about when you practice, till you settle to a comfortable position - try changing which foot you "lead" with.

Sounds like a perfect description to me, AJH. And that's eactly the way my Home Ec teacher taught us to operate the treadle SMs back when I was in 8th grade in 19ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

You get used to it - and fitter! Think of it as an exercise regime that makes something useful!

So she's telling you her name is Bertha! go with it! These are nice plain homely machines, and need good plain useful names. Mine is called Penny Plain.

Because you do it without thinking! I sit with my left foot forward and 'heel-&-toe' with both feet...

Yahoo!! Way to go, Michelle! If you can post pictures anywhere, I'd love to see it!

I'm redoing my grandma's 66 "Redeye" treadle, have the cabinet apart right now for 'refreshing'/ cleaning the wood...hope to get her all together in the next few weeks. I can't wait to treadle again!

And, if my memory serves (which probably doesn't as I was eight years old at the time) I, too, could only use one foot to treadle....

I am going to try this, too, when I get my treadle back together! Thanks for the suggestion, everyone.
