Treddle machine

Lovely lovely DH has just come home with a treddle machine! Bless his cotton socks, he should go fishing mors often! It's a La Rapide very small and sweet, and it's in excelent condition. I need a new leather drive belt and it has long bobbins (fusée) of which I have only one, any ideas where I can get some more? online sources will probably be best, and of course any other information or advice would be most welcome

The machine you have was made by Jean Lamy in Paris France. I don't have much more info than that, but you may get more from

Also check any of the treadle collectors sites, one of them my have a machine like yours. Leather belts are very common parts and you should be able to obtain one from your local sewing machine store. Singer is still producing and selling treadles so the belts are around.

Sounds nice, Claire

My mother's Singer hand-crank used to have the long bobbins - worth looking at Singer suppliers?

Congratulations! The leather belts are easy to find and cost about $8 USD here.

Melinda Meahan - take out TRAS

This is so exciting. DH went to an artisans market around a lake , and as I let him take his fishing rod he returned with a big grin having caught 3 Carp and found a treadle machine for sale by one of the other stalls!

I have looked for a few sites, there are so many. I am clearly going to have a great time exploring my new toy, and can even work when I have expensive electric in the winter months.

Task No 1 find a drive belt. Task No. 2 work out the threading Task No. 3 SEW!!!! lots and lots. I'll keep you updated. Claire
