Unique Patterns

Wow, I cannot believe that you could be so rude and insulting to me! I am stunned. Shocked. Cut to the quick. Bleeding on the floor. Woe is me!

*snort* OK, so I'm a cheap date.

I know that the initial response from Beverley was not made with ill-intent, and her link to the archived discussion was made with the best of intentions. I also realise that Donna's query was for opinions, so was unlikely to be answered with google searches.

It may be stating the obvious, but it's also worth mentioning, that newcomers to the group won't be privy to the discussions that have taken place over the years, which many[1] take forgranted. My own querying of the word 'sewist' springs to mind.[2]

Must admit, though, as a 'wanderer' around usenet and the WWW for quite a few years, I have a major problem with posters who ask a question in a newsgroup because they're too lazy to do a bit of googling on the subject.

I'll willingly try and help if I can the poster who comes up with a 'I've googled, but I can't really quite find what I'm looking for' query, but a simple 'What's this? What's that?' type of query will quite often elicit a rather terse response from me if it's obvious that the answer is out there for people to research for themselves!

Grumble over! I like this NG, the peeps are friendly and very helpful. Now back to the floor tiling in the hall!

[1] I was going to qualify that by adding 'long time posters', but that could be seen as rude! [2] And it still grates! And no, I can't think of a suitable alternative.

I prefer to preserve a degree of anonymity as 'The Wanderer' until I get toknow people. 'Fraid I don't go along with the current big business ideologyof giving out a name to people I don't know. My first or Christian name isfor me to invite others to use. Our interest is primarily in doll making and dressing - porcelain 'collectable dolls, that is - something we both do. Unfortunately the muse has left me at the moment, I've been stuck for several weeks trying to work up the enthusiasm to dress 'Linda' by Donna Rubert. She's a gorgeous doll, but somehow I keep finding other things that just sort of get in the way! :-(

Yeah, we missed it. *sigh* Darn kids and their darn stomach virus for keeping me busy the first part of the week. Then they feel better, but we get snow days (for 3" of snow.) So then I have to go outside and have fun in the snow with them. *sigh*

heh heh

The good news is that I did go back and read some of the archives. Not sure why I didn't think of it first. The postings gave me pause and I'm not rushing into anything pattern-making wise.

thanks to everyone who chimed in.

That was my feeble attempt to let you know my name is "Beverly" not "Bev". I was just returning the favor. I'm never quite sure why people, who see me sign my messages as "Beverly", turn around and address me as "Bev.

Oh, good, I'm glad I could provide some help. Sometimes it's hard to convey "attitude" when posting on Usenet. ;-)

My (mostly stuffy) neighbors always shook their heads at the sight of me out building snowpeople, and sledding down the driveway with my two. Tough! We had fun, they got whiplash. Glad they are over the stomach virus, that's no fun at all.
