upcoming project

Our horse trainer, Heidi, has a gorgeous AQHA 3 year old gelding that she is training to drive (ie pull a cart). The goal is to show him at the Quarter Horse Congress this october--the congress is one of the world's biggest horse shows...something like over 20,000 horses will compete over a 28 day period in various classes.

For driving, she must wear a jacket, a hat and a driving apron. I am going to use this pattern

make the driving apron. The jacket she has is hunter green andgold...I am thinking of making it in hunter green wool melton/meltonlike wool with gold trim and adding her monogram. the apron actuallywraps around you, just under the breast. She'll wear either a skirtor breeches underneath. Before i dare cut into pricey melton, we decided i'll make one out of duck cloth...she can use that one at shows in inclement weather.

any advice on fabric choices, etc??

Oh. Wow. How I would love to see the competitions. Just minor thoughts, Betsey, warping in time way back to other days. Do you want the apron to be dazzling? or do you want the gorgeous gelding to be the star of the show? (Meaning only that you might want to be classy but low-key.) Wool melton? What is the likely weather for the competition to be? Bitter cold? Humid? You don't want the apron to become soggy or miserably hot. Other than that . . . nothing much except it just sounds so wonderful. I wish you a specially happy time with your adventure. Polly

HI Polly-THE competition (as in Congress) is in October in Ohio. so the weather may vary. because some of the other competitions will be in the summer, hence making a muslin out of cotton duck...that can be used then, and in inclement weather.

Think "elegant". some of those congress people will BLING you out...but we are not going for that look. Heidi's jacket is hunter green and gold tapestry of roses. the apron will be the hunter green, trimmed in gold, with her monogram also in gold. her hat (yes, she gets to have a cool hat made!) is going to be hunter green with gold roses on it....

here is sorta what we are going for..

Nice, and in dark green and gold, ELEGANT! Do you already have the monogram design? I just purchased a couple of new ones, including a diamond, an octagon, and an oval. I would be happy to share the online store link.

Oh great. I was so hoping that Beverly would step aside from her grand project to chime in on the monogram. I was just certain she would have some special ideas. Polly
