Update and Introduction

Hi all,

Haven't been posting as much because life has been crazy as I prepare to move to Paris. (I leave 27 August!) I'm afraid I'll have to read through Google Groups once I'm there, but I promise to report on "foreign fabric impressions" and other sewing-related travel stories. Oh, and I'm a woman with a lace mission. Sorry, make that a "dentelle" mission! I do have essential projects packed and ready to go, in individual ziploc bags with thread included. Forget clothes, I'm bringing fabric!

Anyway, in my absence (and hopefully beyond), I'd like you all to meet my friend Michelle. She's going to reply to this message and tell y'all about a project she's working on - a beautiful knit bag which needs a sewn lining. She has a sewing machine from her grandmother-in-law. This lady's dying wish (almost) was for Michelle to use the sewing machine. I wish I'd be here longer to help her locally, but I knew that this group would support and encourage her in my stead.

alt.sewing, meet Michelle! Michelle, meet alt.sewing!

Hi alt.sewing,

Nice to meet you! The project is a corded bag (knitted) made with shiny japanese yarn, in shades of tan, pink, coral, and sage. The fabric for the lining is mottled batik, shot with silver. I have instructions for the lining, but I know I'm going to need help. I haven't gotten to that step yet, but look forward to reading!

Why not practice with some fabric you don't care about, to see how the lining construction goes? Always makes me feel more comfortable to know I won't mess up the good stuff.

Welcome to a very helpful group!
