I was wondering if I had to make any special adjustments to use clear nylon thread. Do I have to adjust my tension differently? Can I use this thread in the bobbin? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Peggy

Do you mean monofilament? If so, not in the bobbin, needle only. The nylon will cut grooves into your housing and ruin it

I find the stuff a complete PITA and use it only if there is no alternative AND I'm being paid a lot to do it!
I only use it in the needle for invisible machine applique

Will it not do the same with the tension plates and/or other topside parts?
Yes, if it is a problem at all.
not according to my sewing machines advisors...
This stuff has become the bane of my existence. I don't know why my skin has gotten so sensitive since I've gotten older, but I have had to remove most of the neckline tags in my wardrobe. Most of them I can just cut off, but the ones sewn with this thread from hell takes FOREVER, because I have to pick every stitch from the seam. You think you have it all and put the darn shirt back on and it's like a needle prick. Start over again. I HATE that stuff.

I wouldn't dream of using it for clothes. I use it for some machine applique projects...

Maybe O T, but I recently read an article about one of Hollywood's brightest up-and-rising star wears his underwear inside out because he can not stand the tags next to his body. I wonder if some one should send him a seam ripper with instructions how to use it. Emily
It's excellent for cutting cheese. Wrap the ends around two pencils so you don't cut your fingers.

Oh, THANK YOU for this idea! I gave up on buying those little wire cheese cutters because they kept breaking. This is a much better idea.
Melinda, who is putting nylon thread on her shopping list to look for when she next has spare funds.
Thanks for the idea. My cheese cutter wire is so stretched out of shape. Might see if there is some way to wrap the thread around the ends of the cutter. I love it.

unfortunately nylon is much weaker than steel. Best method I found is to pour hot water on your knife first, works great.
BTW the solution to the poke problem is to leave long ends. The shorter the ends are the more it irritates: leave 3/4" on there and its no prob at all.
