Vacation pictures not totally OT

Hey All,

I have pictures up. I picked through and just put up SOME pictures. When I get better pictures from the wedding (I will be getting a CD of wedding pictures eventually) I will put up some of those. I'm hoping for good pics of the boy in his suit since I talked with y'all about that. And I promise to put up more pics of some of the GORGEOUS saris that were worn.

is a page aboutthe exhibit. And you will see there, that one of the pictures has a sideview of a dress in one of my pictures. ;) (It's a Dior original; GORGEOUSthing!! and they had pictures of the lining and built in corset. amazingwork!) I thought I'd have to smack a woman in the exhibit too. I'm basking in the glow of being 4 feet from a Givenchy custom tailored suit, and a Dior couture gown, that truly is a Christian Dior gown (was made about 10 years before his death).......just truly in awe. Two of the most gorgeous things I've ever seen. (and they both looked to be nearly my size!!! Well, OK. The Givenchy maybe a size too small.....control top hose all I have to say; and the Dior was maybe a size or two too big for me......Krispy Creme would save me there!!! LOL) Anyway! This gal comes cruising around the corner and says "These aren't old!!!!!!! These are from like....NOW!! Why would they take up room with these things????"

I know you are all so proud of me because I'm not writing this from a Canadian jail cell.

I picked up my jaw, turned to the woman and said, "The exhibit is showing a range of clothing and how things changed over the centuries. These are both more modern, although the red dress over there (said in sickeningly sweet southern style) is more than 60 years old. This red suit is a Givenchy (and yes I pronounced it jee-von-shay) one of a kind. That red dress is a Dior custom made gown, made in his lifetime. If you want two really fabulous examples of "modern" design, you can't do much better than these." Then I gave her that special smile we all reserve for when we are really being rude but we don't want to look it. ;) She stammered out a "oh well...oh, um..I guess you're right about that. Didn't think of it that way." Then she walked away from the crazy lady with the weird sounding accent. (I sure don't sound like a native up there. LOL)

I knew y'all would be sooooo proud of me. heh heh heh I just could NOT stop my mouth from saying something. I did manage to stop my hand from popping her on the back of the head though....it's the small victories y'know.....

Heh. My kids know they've really gotten on my nerves when I tell them, "Ooh, you're making the palm of my hand itch".

Thank you Joanne!!! She was Really special. LOL I knew you would be one of the ones who really appreciated it. I was kinda glad/sad you and/or Beverly weren't with me. It woulda got Ugly if you two were there with me. We couldn't have all stopped ourselves. heh heh

Oh!! Too I have to mention the cafeteria in the basement of the ROM. A $9 hamburger sounds expensive, but they have one that is a heckuva deal. Save this idea for when any of you want a food crime. About a 1/3 lb (at least) hamburger. And it had to be ground sirloin, it was really good beef to start with. Then they top it with bacon, caramelized onions, a slice of brie and a grilled portobello mushroom cap. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm It was Fabulous and well worth $9. (you also get fries with it, and their fries actually taste like potatoes!!!! GASP) So not only did we get to see marvelous things (I didn't even tell y'all about the Asia exhibit....6,000 year old jade bracelets from China, and on and on) we had a marvelous meal too. They say the cafeteria has something to suit just about anyone's tastes and they really do.

Sharon Yeah, I'm waiting for supper to finish cooking. Can you tell I'm a little hungry??? lol

Thanks, that worked. Though I'd love to see the Dior and Givenchy!

A little like how I felt at some of the outrageous comments at the Met when I went to the Poiret exhibit in '07.

remarks were just amazingly ignorant. One had to wonder why folks were there if they had no clue how important Poiret was. Seeing his designs up close was one of the highlights of the trip for me. Like you, I really wanted to open them up and see the details. I'm so glad you had the opportunity to visit the museum and see those exhibits.

A friend says that's the only possible response when someone says something unbelievably stupid and you need to be a little bit polite -- "Well, isn't that special!" LOL

That hamburger certainly sounds tasty. I had a portobello burger at the Cheesesteak Factory while visiting family in Orlando, and that was the best ever. I'm not much for meat, especially 1/3 of a pound! That would last me several days. But the grilled portobello, onions, cheese

- now that I can get behind. I made myself a portobello burger - marinated it briefly in olive oil, wine and garlic vinegar, oregano and basil, then grilled it, and added a slice of provolone to melt onto it, served on an onion roll with lettuce and sliced onion. Wasn't half bad.

I hope you had a good meal before reading. ;-)

OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Thanks for posting that link. Those are gorgeous. There was another exhibit we got to see at the ROM that you'd like too. They had an amazing collection of art deco furniture and decorations. I loved the way they were all displayed. Rather than a piece here and there, they had made "rooms" of the furniture. Of course, all behind glass, but you could imagine just walking in and sitting down. ;) That was right next door to the Wedgewood exhibit.

I think you just need to go to Toronto and see the museum. ;) Put that on your list of places to go. (it only took 2 weeks for my passport to come back.)

Indeed! I'm so glad I happened to be in NYC while that was being exhibited. Here's another you might like to add to your "gotta see someday list":

wire mannequins are about 2" tall, and the detail in the garments is exquisite, tiny hats and gloves, real leather shoes, bound buttonholes, etc..

You've convinced me. Right after DGS graduates college and my budget is back to normal. ;-}

I plan to visit DGD in Orlando just after Christmas, and will request she & BF take Gramma to the place mentioned. Like you, I'm not much on meat, but that burger sounds delicious. Thanks for the hint. Emily
