I've pretty much finished this skirt

for the hem (which is where i'm having some trouble.) I don'treally get what the pattern is saying. These are the instructionslisted:

1) mark length, press hem up along marking (i get this; this is like every other hem!)

mark depth of hem; trim evenly

  • clip pleat seams to stitching at top of hem (this is what i don't understand. clip what? where? (lol))

press seams open below clips.

can someone explain this in a little more detail please?

much much appreciated!

This is a liitle difficult without art work, but I'll give it a try:

The "pleat seam" is _not_ going to be pressed _open_ for it's entire length. For most of its length, it will be pressed flat (all to one side, just as it was sewn). However, when you get to the hem, you need to clip the seam allowance _just above_ where the hem is. Clip to within a scant 1/8" of the stitching (careful no to clip the stitches). Press the seam allowance _below_ the clip (in the hem area) _open_, then hem the garment. After hemming, press the seam _in the hem area_ into a "pleat" again.

Clear as mud?
