<Very Bad Word!>

Yesterday I finished the new navy blue linen/rayon blend slacks, and tried them on to double check the hem length. Well! I made these from a pattern I used last summer, so I "knew" the pattern fit just right, and didn't need any alternations. Right? Nope! I completely forgot, that after making a couple of pair of slacks from woven fabric, which fit perfectly, I altered the pattern to make some slacks from a stretch twill. Sadly, the new slacks are just >--------< that much too tight. Well, I'll put them aside and make another pair for the trip. I so wanted to have the pants and jacket, though. :-(

Motivation to lose a few of those extra pounds. ;-}

I'm proud of you for only saying one very bad word. I would have used more than that. ;)

Bummer about the pants. But having a pair of "skinny pants" in the closet isn't an all bad thing. ;)

Yeah, just one! Imagine! I think I would have aired my 'bad' vocabulary in German, English and perhaps even French. ;-) She's so well-behaved, our Beverly. 'b

Now, I can't agree with you on that one. My whole wardrobe used to be clogged by skinny things I hoped to diet back into one day, which never really happened. So I swore to myself that I'd never do that again and am much happier since. I actually buy my stuff a tiny bit oversized so that I don't look 'grown out of' things (I hate that, it makes you look even fatter than you actually are, but that's another story). No 'guilty mind' garments lurking in the wardrobe now and I can be sure that whatever I take out of it will fit me, so there's no unpleasant surprises if I dress in a hurry. ;-) But that is just me, for other folks diets seem to work very well. ;-)

I've never found a diet that worked for me. I have taken to eating less at meals,but still eat my goodies. That keeps me fairly stable, but far from thinner. Notice I do not say thin. The only time I was ever thin in my life was after been rather ill for 6 weeks,when I was in my 20's. You know what my doctor told me. Fatten up a little, you're too thin. Never heard that since. LOL! Thank you, you made my day. (Don't know why I've got such a bad one today, it just happens once in a while, doesn't it?)

I used more than that in meat space. ;-}

Right! But I will leave making up the jacket for another (skinnier) day.

Thanks. ;-}

I have several very nice outfits which fit a previous body I used to have. I can't throw them out...

I always quote what the late, great Peter Ustinov said, 'I've stopped worrying about my weight, I let others worry about it'. :-)

There is a problem with older people who are thin and become ill. They have no reserves, and can lose the battle. I am quite safe from that, I could weather devastating illness and not starve to death. I wouldn't say that being significantly overweight is good, but I do think that the obsession to be very thin, to get rid of all fat, is not a very good idea, and makes people look sick even if they aren't. I see a lot of people on television who look like they could benefit from a good meal.

And the contestants on "Survivor" who start off really thin do not seem to fare well when facing up to 39 days of near-starvation.

I did that with my favourite skirt pattern: altered it for a customer and forgot! LOTS of technical language there!

I feel for you.

Oh, I like that..."technical language"... yes, that's what it will be from now on. ;-)

Thanks. I have other fabric in the stash, I'll just make another pair. But I hate it when I put so much work into something, then discover a little detail like "It's too small, stupid!" :-\

When I got back from a stay with very hospitable friends last August I realised that I had to take myself in hand or I'd never get back into my wedding dress as I'd planned for our golden wedding (2010)

So I just began eating less. So far I've lost over a stone and am on target. I feel better and for a daughter's wedding last week I looked good too - well, relatively :-) I'd bought a gold shirt from a charity shop and wore it for the wedding dinner, I felt smart (unusual for me) and didn't let the side down.

It wouldn't have fitted me a few months ago.

I'm glad I haven't discarded the few smart things in my wardrobe from the

70s and 80s, they're classic designs so not dated and they won't be wasted, I hope. And I'll save on not having to buy smart things for the cruise this summer.

I'll never be thin though, and don't want to be. All those bones :-(

A few years back I started my weight shedding journey with Weight Watchers, and lost 70 lbs. When it got to my Silver wedding last summer, I STILL could not wear my wedding dress, as I'd planned. I had to make a whole new dress: the wedding dress was TOO BIG! :D

Congratulations on your loss, however you do it. I needed the disciplin of a system, and the support was brilliant and suited me perfectly. I still go to my weekly meeting, which is fun and keeps me on track.

Well done!

I once tried it but the other women irritated me and the over-made-up 'leader' with her (to me) false enthusiasm was awful

But it might have been because there was a fee and I was just making excuses :-)

The discipline for me is twofold, the anniversary and an attempt to relieve pain. My husband is supporting me this time, he never has before, said he loved me however I was. But he's concerned about my pain and encourages me by keeping a graph. It's very interesting.

It's not affecting him or long, lean, fit (spit) grand-daughter who's temporarily with us and walks me round the block at night because we're all having the same meals, my portions are smaller, that's all.

But if I could get there without damaging my health, I'd love to be in a state that had Dr. S. ordering me to eat everything in sight.

Which reminds me -- it's way past time I checked for myself that they plowed the recreationway clear to the end. He said a mile *every day*, not every Sunday!
