Victory!

You know that thread we had a while back about not doing the sewing before you'd done the housework? well, my housework is now done, so I can get on without it annoying me!

Our boiler was playing up: no hot water, it was just luke-warm and cold in stripes! I had to skip in and out of the shower, avoiding the cold deluge! So the kitchen was a mess: I couldn't wash up the stuff that can't go in the dishwasher, and after 3 days it was getting annoying and crowded to the point of no room to cook tonight's dinner! Anyway, the boiler engineer came and fixed it this morning, and while he says keep an eye on it and get then back if it happens again, so far it's OK... I got plenty of properly HOT water to to wash the pans and stuff and mop down the surfaces. While he was here this morning I got a silver leg and two arms cut out, and now this afternoon I can get busy and sew to my heart's content, knowing that the kitchen is cleared for action when it comes to time to make spaghetti Bolognese for dinner! :)

OK, so the hob needs doing, but there's no point until AFTER making the Bolognese sauce: I always get tomato all over the place with that! And the floor can be swept after cooking too, and washed tomorrow if I don't get time today.

Tomorrow I need to go and get the terminally ill serger back from the OSMG (he's done all he can, and now it's just a matter of replacing the whole machine when he finds me a good 'un).

Now I just need to hear back from the dockyard, and I'm fine for the next while: lots of sewing to do, and no outgoings until I've earned a bit more cash!

Glad to hear your boiler would be fixed. I'd hate a cold shower in Sydney in summer so it would be really awful in England in winter. My parents said it was snowing in Maidenhead when we spoke last night! As for the washing up, I'd have boiled a kettle. Actually that would have been plan B - plan A would have been to put it in the dishwasher on a gentle cycle with lower temp. The only thing I won't put in the dishwasher is my bamboo steamers. I take the view that there's a perfectly good appliance that does a better job that I do. I have the same view with the washing machine - the more fragile items (silks etc) go on delicate washes. Remember Shirley Conran's line of "life is too short to stuff a mushroom" - I believe life is too short to wash clothes and dishes by hand.

The washing up was a small amount: beer glasses that fall over in the dishwasher, carbon steel knives that rust if you leave them wet, and an aluminium pressure cooker that doesn't respond well to dishwasher powder. Other than that, I'm with you on the washing up and dishwashing! In fact, there are now good 'handwash' cycles on all the replacement washer's that I'm currently looking at. It was just that I needed a pile of stuff to emphasis the predicament! :D

It snowed here Thursday, turning to sleet and rain by the afternoon. Not a pleasant walk home from school... But yesterday, while below freezing in the shade all day, was clear and bright: a perfect winter day. The walk home was cold, but good.

But we do stuff mushroom... The BIG 5" sort get stuffed with a mixture of good sausage meat, flaked almonds and red wine. They make an excellent dinner.
