Viking feet

I just got an e-mail from my local Viking dealer that in honor of Super Bowl

41, they are offering 41% off any one Viking item on Sunday. Yeah, I know, doesn't include machines. I spotted the bias binding foot and thought that might be something I could use. I'm making my dog a fleece coat and was going to bind the edges. Has anyone ever used one of these? I ask because I could not master the rolled hem foot and won't buy this if it is difficult to use. My first choice would have been the even feed foot because it's expensive, but I already have it. I should say I do more home dec stuff and crafty stuff than actual clothes sewing. Thanks.

I took a class from my Viking Dealer called "Sew with your feet". The instructor was wonderful and I learned the tricks to making so many of those feet work FOR me. I felt the same as you about the rolled hem foot until I took the class. I love the bias binding foot but I had that for 2 years before this class and never had satisfactory results until I had the instructor sit next to me and show me how. They also have a book of this title but for me it's more successful to see and learn hands on than reading and looking at pictures.

The one foot I bought that I use more than I ever expected was the walking foot.....it's expensive so getting almost half off would be a HUGE savings. I don't quilt, although most say that's what it's for. I use it for sewing up layers of fabric that shift around, any fabric that creeps and crawls, makes sewing with satins, velvet and velour a breeze.

I've never used the bias binding foot, but like you have never gotten the rolled hem foot to work. I do love the piping foot. I have used it many times. I think if you do a lot of home dec it might be something you would like. Gail

Thanks to both of you. I already have the piping, cording, and even feed feet.

Hi Cathi,

Tried to respond last night, but my computer was refusing to send anything. Anyway, last fall I bought a generic bias binding foot from either Nancy's Notions or Home Sew (I forget which), and I love it. Even though it's a generic foot, it works great on my Viking Iris. Reading the package directions was all it took to understand how to use it.

I used it to apply bias binding on the edges of a sweatshirt that I conveted into a cardigan, and it was almost magic how it turned out. The only problem I had was with the ends of the sleeves, which were sewn into a circle. I finally gave up and did those in the "usual" way. But for flat edges, like your dog's coat, and for a multitude of craft and home dec sewing, it would be very useful. Now that I've tried it, I definitely would replace it if anything happened to this one.
