Waistband help/suggetions needed

I have a problem....

I bought some stretch denim from Denver Fabrics before the sale, so I can't get more of the fabric, but I've sort of stuffed up on 2 waistbands and can't re-cut - they're shaped - as I'll not have enough for another planned pair of shorts. So far I've cut 1 pair shorts and 1 pair capris.

Now I could interface both sides of the waistband, which would make them rather bulky, or I have some stretch drill in red I could cut replacement waistbands from, which is a little lighter in weight than the denim.

What should I do, interface both sides of the denim or cut new waistbands from the red (which is a VERY bright scarlet red)?

I'd do the red waistbands, but make it look like a design feature by doing any top stitching in red too. If you are using the change pocket that could be in the same red fabric to "harmonise the design" ;) or even red turn ups?

I never make both sides of the waistband in denim as I don't like it next to my skin, specially when sitting for long periods of time such as driving. Sometimes I've used a soft, cotton flannelette (preshrunk) and one time I used interlock, stabilised lightly. Quilting cotton is Ok too and I've used this on pocket linings to follow through with the 'design feature'. Then at other times I've used the same cotton fabric left over from a shirt that I will be wearing with the jeans. This gives a nice look too.

Just another suggestion!! Bronwyn ;-)

No change pocket, just leg pockets which are alredy in place and the fly is all done. Decorative topstitching down the leg seams could work though - they're 3 panel capris/shorts: front, side, and back. Not sure if I'd do the hems or not, but the capris have a vent I'd have to work around/with to get to look right.

These don't sit on the waist 1" below is what is stated on the pattern packet. What happens is that when I'd go the stitch the centre back seam I'd be stitching a non-interface piece to an interfaced piece and I can't swap things around as they are shaped pieces. It's only a light weight denim any way.

I have not seen 3 panel capris/shorts. Do you have a pattern number?
