I guess we're just reading it differently.

uttered>I guess we're just reading it differently.I know what I wrote. In plain English. If you choose to twist it, not my problem. Perhaps you would condone some prat going down one of the most notorious cave systems in the UK after a week of heavy rain as "inexperience". Personally I class it as total stupidity.

Got it. Loudly and clearly.

AND......a whole lot of people include recreational drugs and alchohol in with their "let's act stupid" mentality. Not everything that is classified as an "accident" is an accident ....and weather it happens in a remote location or under the watchful eye of a teenagers video lense in town.....maybe it's human nature....or I don't know what. But we have all seen video clips of somebody (and yes I feel sorrry for them even though I think they are idiots)...that get loaded and show their friends how they can jump to the pool from the balcony, or other just really stupid stuff. I don't watch those shows on television....but there seems to be a whole bunch of people that like to see how stupid other people can be without "really getting hurt." And oddly enough, there seem to be a whole bunch of people that take great pride and pleasure in doing stupid stuff. When...yes, when not if, they get hurt....will it be an "accident?" Joy

Not if you're in a "blame the victim" frame of mind.

It's not a matter of blame. It's a matter of taking responsibility for your actions. And again...I think there is a huge difference between normal people acting "normally" that do get into unforseen trouble.....(such as Marlys kids) and....a whole lot of other "accidents waiting to happen." I have my degree in Recreation Management and have been an EMT. I spend many hours planning and preparing to lead groups and/or my family on treks......so that their safety isn't compromised in their pursuit of happiness. I don't know why everyone is so eager to point the finger of "this ones a meanie" or "that one is cold hearted"....when it's only that a few people have said that "some people do some stupid things. Take it a step further....drunk driver. Those "victims" hust lot't of people other than themselves!!! Joy

Actually, the vast majority of drunk drivers never actually hurt anybody. The odds of being hurt by somebody who is at fault, yet isn't driving drunk is far greater. But there's no special interest group to profit from that fact, so it gets lost in the hysteria / propoganda.

(And just for the record, my cousin died while driving drunk, another cousin died getting hit by a distracted driver, so let's not start the "you don't know!!!' crying, 'k?)

I think we would prefer to live in different worlds. I'd rather risk the drunk drivers than tolerate living in a police state. Like, I prefer Amsterdam, while you might prefer Saudi Arabia. Nothing wrong with that, just different values.

That's a rather extreme assessment, don'cha think? To choose Saudi Arabia for Joy is just a little inflammatory, don'cha think?

After careful assessment of your recent posts, I think I'm plonking you. You're just too "angrie" for me.

Bye,

Iris

Why do you say that - do you think of Saudi Arabia as a bad place full of bad people? I don't, so I hardly consider it inflammatory.

I was just trying to think of a culture that has very strict standards on acceptable behavior to contrast with one that had a more "live and let live" culture. There's really nothing wrong, except it always seems that the type A's aren't content to just leaving us type B's alone.

what does the B stand for, in your case?

I'd be more worried about what she attributes the "A" to in yours - LOL! ; p

Seems that you might have a guess in mind? I'll take it as a compliment, if the alternative is being an A.

So, I say live and leave other people alone, and that is somehow offensive. I've never understood that line of thinking.

Thought I might change the subject line since this has degenerated quite a bit. I am not going to weigh in with anything other than a topic change here, so please don't think I am.

Snips

Just got back from visiting my 3 year old granddaughter in California, so I have many projects in mind for her, and several already in process for the 7 y.o. granddaughter. PLUS I will be making embroidered T shirts for my golf group, and I need shorts for golf desperately and have the material and matching T shirts.

Nothing got done today, but come Tuesday morning I will hit it with a vengance!!!!

Here is a link about a guy who decided to test the strength of the windows on the 24th floor. He proved the window was strong enough, but unfortunately discovered that the attachment to the frame was not.

well, a Toronto police officer reported that Hoy ". . . was showinghis knowledge of the tensile strength of window glass and presumablythe glass gave way. I know the frame and the blinds are still there."

Hi...just me again. I AM a person that totally believes that EVERYONE should have the right to live life howeverthey want.....(with one tiny exception)....and that is that I get a bit testy when tax dollars and lives get WASTED (harsh but my commentary), on saving them from their own irrational behavior. I gave the example of drunk drivers and cars....but since you didn't understand what I was trying to say (I STILL havn't learned the ART of conveying my thoughts as intended)....but drunk/high people walk into partially frozen lakes attempting to ice fish every year (I bet FAR less sober people do that), drunk/high people crash snowmobiles, waterskis, motorized recreational vehicles each year than sober folks do......etc. I am not saying people shouldn't drink.....but without me lecturing you on the effects of alcohol/drugs on the system.....people shouldn't mix them with their recreational activities where they NEED themselves alert. As for the "hey the other people don't have to volunteer to rescue" mentality......well....yes they do. It's something that's built inside. If a person has it they don't think to react to JUDGE if the victim is worthy of them risking their lives...no, they spring into action. If you can't see that....if you don't know what I am talking about, then you will never understand. Yes, I am critical because I know that I would, without thinking, stop to help you no matter what!!! It is just inside me. A couple weeks ago we were driving through the Mexican jungle and we saw some terible fires so my husband got quite concerned that the tiny road would get closed off and we would be stranded. We then saw a flashing of lights....and my heart started pounding because I had heard recent stories of how their was a scam with people posing as Mexican police and robbing American tourists on lonely roads. But instead it was a car in a swampy ditch with ......my husband would have been all tooo happy to drive by.....and even Ah well....you get the point. rescuers rescue no matter what. JOy
