White model 710

< snips >

Thanks again for your help, Ron - much appreciated. But - I'm still baffled .. While hand-turning it very slowly - just as the needle starts to rise

- maybe ~ 1mm ? the hook is right at the needle -

- but the eye of the needle is ~ 3/16" below the the hook. Any suggestions ? - thanks in advance John T.

I certainly won't question the wisdom there - but this is just a Thrift Store find - that I'll give away to someone - not something that I want to spend too much money on - especially if I can do it myself, with a little guidance & perseverence. I'll try the Yahoo Groups - it seems there are two active groups -

- one for White brand and one for general repairs. The Necchi group was quite helpful with the Necchi. < someone here suggested it - thanks again ! > This machine is really sweet, though - looks like new - original sales slip from 1980 $ 610. .. that's probably what made me pay my absolute maximum Thrift Store price.. $ 50. Thanks again all. And, as others have long said - Ron - you're a treasure ! John T.

Which is the inflation adjusted equivalent of Canadian $1,750.41 today.

All of that is commendable, but remember, without once in a while having a professional sewing machine repair person do some work, they will all go out of business. We wouldn't want that, now, would we?

:-D

So true!

And adding to what Beverly said, if you have the dead bulb you could take it with you to an automotive parts store to see if they have a corresponding replacement. Many of these bulbs used in sewing machines and vacuum cleaners use the same type as required in an auto.
