Will Velcro support the weight?

I've just made a 60" wide wall hanging that weighs about 3 lbs. I'd like to hang it using 1 inch wide Velcro sewn along the top edge. However, I'm a bit worried that the Velcro won't support the weight. I really don't want the thing to fall off the wall and land on my guests.

I've used the same width Velcro to hang pelmets. That worked fine, but this project is heavier.

Do any of you have any experience with this?

you can get 2" wide velcro if you think that would be better.

I've seen 2 square inches of velcro hold a house brick to a vertical surface.

There are different strengths of velcro. Some are "industrial" strength. But if you search on Google or some such, be sure to exclude kinky stuff in your search, when I search for velcro, I get all kinds of unwanted sex gadgets.

The Velcro I have on hand is some I purchased at a fabric store. Looks like the 'industrial strength' is what I need.

I understand your suggestion of making a 90 degree turn with the velcro. I can see how that would help, too.

Thanks so much for the tips.
