zipper problem/question

Whoopsie! Got a pair of jeans with a "too good" front zipper. Yes, it has a little (very little) bit of pressure behind the fabric. But, my zipper tends to zip down rather than stay up. Is there anything that can be done with worn zippers like that to stiffen up their action? Or, is this pair of jeans a throw-away?

why not just put a new zipper in?

I have seen a gadget - which I can't find now - to deal with that. It didn't really do anything to the zipper. It was a cord (I think) that went through the open part of the zipper pull, which you then put around a button on the waist band -- or something of that sort. Very low-tech, but effective.

*Aaaaack!* In jeans? I have tackled many things, with various degrees of success. Replacing a zipper in a pair of commercially sewn jeans is not something I would ever do. YMMV

BINGO! Sounds like a winner to me. I'll try it. Thanks.

Sounds like the kind of thing that Vermont Country Store would carry.

Replacing jeans zippers is not that hard!! In fact I've found it easier than replacing zips in trousers because at least jeans manufacturers have used longer stitches.

RB....if the jeans still have a lot of life in them, them I'd replace the zip with a new one.

Maybe try a Goody hair elastic. Your choice of circumference and color.

You might not want to wear these jeans to go out drinking beer. YMMV.

I think clothilde sells it.

Really, putting a zipper in jeans is not as bad as it looks.

There is a little pin type thingy on the back of your zipper pull that locks your zipper when you put the tab down. I suspect this has broken off.

BUT< the hair tie thing sounds like the solution to me. Beats the heck out of replacing a zipper.

I think you mean "Clotilde" (but I do that every time I Google for Clotilde, too).

But this:

isn't the device, and I didn't come up with anything else. There's an elastic loop thing you can get to 'expand' men's collars, that might work.

Oh if that is the case, then that can be replaced. I think ATS carries zipper parts. Other than that, you'll need one or two needle-nosed pliers.

If they don't, I'm sure a search on "zipper parts" will deliver.
