Embossing

I've been working on some thank you notes. For some reason, when ever I turn on the heating gun the powder comes off in some places. Before I had the gun I used the toaster :) and it worked perfectly, but now it doesn't. What could be the problem?

Not sure, but here are a couple of things to try (keep in mind that a heat gun will blow any loose powder, of course the toaster won't!).

1- Is your ink "juicy"? If the pad is getting dry, or your stamp isn't inked well enough, you'll get areas on the paper that don't ink well, hence the embossing powder doesn't stick very well. If necessary, get a reinker and reink your pad. 2- You are using pigment ink? Dye ink dries more quickly and is harder to emboss. 3- When you dump off the excess powder, turn the card over and flick the back of it a couple of times with your fingers. This should dislodge any additional unstuck powder. 4- Try holding the heat gun a little further away from the card, so the air movement against the powder isn't as strong.

If none of these things (and anyone else's suggestions) work, email the group again, and we'll brainstorm some more until we get your problem figured out!

Cheers, Barbara

Here's the weird thing - I did 2 sets thank you cards. The 1st set was perfect, but the 2nd set was where I had the problem. I had to abandon the project for the moment for lack of time (it was for a wedding) but when I start again I'll try all the suggestions.

I seem to have lost all my embossing powder when I moved. I would like to buy some clear, black, and gold in bulk so I can store them in containers big enough to dip my paper in. Anyone know of a good online source?

Jeannette, I don't know of any bulk sources - always just use the little containers. Looked thru Rubber Stamper and no ads for bulk amounts. Post if you find something! Barbara

I don't carry the Embossing Powders in bulk at the moment but can get over 200 colors for you pretty quickly. It comes to me in bags so you would need your own "right sized" container to dip it in. If you are interested take a look at our store -

& send me an email. Hope this helps, Liz
