New stuff

Hello all,

I just went to a rs convention this weekend and am all excited to go play with my new stuff. Thought I'd ask you all what you look for at conventions and what you actually end up taking home! I discovered a couple new products for using with the brass stencils. One of which made BEAUTIFUL soft matte raised images and the other gave a look of UTEE but in finer detail.

The other thing I discovered were the Opalite ink pads which gave the look of pearl-ex on versamark only without the halo that you often get from wiping the excess PE off. Sometimes I like the soft look of the halo, other times... not so much! It's all good, just nice to have options.

What new products or techniques have gotten you excited lately? Sandi

I've taken up knitting. With a passion. I had no idea there were so many nifty varieties of yarn out there!

I have no idea how I'm going to combine it with stamping, but give me time ...

Learned you can emboss with the toaster over and no need to buy the "embossing heat gun". Saved me 30$!

True, but it makes breakfast slightly more interesting...

I came home from the Cleveland / Akron convention with twinkling h2o's. Little pots of watercolor paints with a very understated sparkle to them. Paint with them like regular water colors, or brush the paint onto the stamp, spritz it with a fine mist and then stamp. You can get 5 - 10 images from one painting each one becoming lighter and more watercolory. (is that a word?)

Sandi - be careful you don't singe your paper. I started out with the toaster and overcooked a lot of EP. Then I got at heat gun at the hardware store for cheaper than the craft heat guns. It worked well too, but had a bit more "blow" and a wider shooting area. After I took a class at the stamp store and used their heat gun, I decided that was the way to go and asked Santa to bring me one for Christmas!

Pat - I'm knitting too! But all I can do is knit (no purling). As a result I have a great chenille afghan and several really beautiful scarves made from gorgeous yarns on #17 needles!

Yeah, beads - I've been hanging big chunky beads off the ends of skinny little scarves and creating something like yarn jewelry. And I'm thinking there may be a way to use some of my chunkier stamps on felted handbags = I just haven't figured out how, yet!

No kidding. (Those of you who can't resist buying one more stamp or one more jar of embossing powder, beware: The stash accumulation instinct is

*much* worse when you're looking at yarn! I figure one of these days I'm going to leave a great estate sale...)

Yes, Pat, same here. Sometimes I think of the wonderful vacations I could have taken with all the money tied up in the crafts in this house!

On the other hand, without the craft stuff, I wouldn't have much to *do* on most of my vacations!
