Paper Temperature When Embossing

Hey Guys!

Does anyone know what temperature the paper/card gets when you are melting embossing powder with a heat gun? I have some printable CDs I want to try embossing (to give a raised glossy effect on some of the text), but I'm worried I'll end up melting the CD as well as the embossing powder. Any thoughts?

Many thanks in advance,

Liam

The CD will get warm -- people who cut them say to heat them with the heat tool first.

I would put the CD down on a flat surface and then put the heat on them. You weren't planning on using them as CD's after the heating, were you?

I regularly make things with CDs. I put them on a heat resistant teflon mat and that on top of a glass 'worktop saver' or whatever they're called. Heat gently, and start a little further away than you would do, gradually reducing the distance to the one you would normally use for paper embossing. If you heat it too much it will warp and then possibly the embossing will crack. I have tried UTEE on CDs. Melting the powder went ok but it eventually cracked off because of the uneven tensions. When I used to do enamelwork it was necessary to counter-enamel - i.e. on both sides. That's not easy with CDs but would be possible with care.

Hope this helps.
