A "loud" old elna sewing machine

I have been given (by a relative) an old Elna Supermatic. Before it had been placed in storage, it had been serviced. That was a few years ago. I have carefully followed the instruction manual as to cleaning and oiling, and have no complaints other than a couple :-).... are these machines normally very "loud"??? Also, I do seem to have some difficulty when trying to sew 1/4 in seams -- seems the feed dogs sorta swish the fabric around a little at times if I have the needle centered. I am a little worried about moving the needle position for any extended amount of sewing to get that 1/4 inch seam. The machine is in excellent condition, I am very proud of it and want to continue the excellent care it has had.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Vintage Supermatics are well-known for their 'growling.' =20

There's a YAHOO group called WEFIXIT, a group dedicated to repairing and restoring old sewing machines. We have several Elna owners on the group, and you are welcome to join us if you like!

Thanks, Irene, I will check out their NG! "Growling" it does do, LOL! But has excellent speed control and other nice things, its just that 1/4 in seam that bothers me now.
