Copying RTW

I was trying to find someone on the PACC referral list near me who would copy a jumper that fits me perfectly, and there isn't anybody on the list who says they do that kind of thing, and there are pitifully few people around me anyway. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to find someone who would do that for me?

Melinda, you can handle this yourself unless it is one of those complicated Vogue Designer styles with six thousand pieces. If you cannot reproduce it in PMB, try the following method.

Clear off your dining table and cover it with one of those cardboard cutting boards OR lay a sheet down on a piece of carpeted floor. Next, lay down whatever you use for pattern paper (drafting paper, newsprint, doctors' office examining paper, butcher paper or the back of a discarded roll of wallpaper). Now, take your jumper and lay it on the paper, manipulating it so that an entire piece or half piece is spread out completely flat. At this point you may want to pin it in place for security, which is why you are doing this on a cardboard cover or a carpet. Next, you draw right around the seamline for that piece. Unpin it, and wiggle the garment around until the next pattern piece is lying flat on the paper, pin it and draw round it. Carry on in this fashion until you have copied all the pieces, then cut them out of the paper, remembering to add seam allowances.

The alternative, of course, is to take the jumper apart, use it to make a pattern, then stitch it back together.

Try it, you might surprise yourself! I did, the first time I tried it.

Actually, I don't have the space or the time to do it myself right now. If I did, I would have already done it, because I've done it before. I need to find someone else to do it for me, which is why I was asking how to find someone. If I get desperate enough, I can just take one of the two identical jumpers (different colors) I have apart, but I really don't want to do that. I am really kicking myself now for not buying the one that was in the catalog a year after I first bought these, that I didn't buy because it was a color I never would have worn, to cut apart to make a pattern. But they haven't had the style for several years now -- at least not in anything near my size.

I could possibly reproduce it in PMB, but it might not be *exactly* like this one, and I would have to go through the same iterations of trying to make it perfect that I don't have time for. So it is definitely worth my time to just give it to someone else to do who can do a good job and then spend the time I would have spent on it in working to earn more money than I would have lost by doing it myself.

Isn't this the story of our lives? When we have money, we lack time; when we have time, there is no money. *sigh*

Yup. I don't particularly mind it, though. I think it is a valuable character lesson to learn to prioritize things in life.

Oops, sorry I misunderstood you. And yes,I can totally identify. Right now I am seeking a geek to fix a couple of problems - the one I have used for quite some time no longer seems to be interested in working. Oh well, since his mother was widowed she spoils him more and more, and just about completely keeps his kids, so he has lost the incentive.

I got most things on my computer in order, the two main problems are (1) I can no longer reach the free WiFi in this neighborhood, have to go through the dialup and I suspect it is AOL's firewalls doing it as the guy next door has no problem, and (2) I have no idea how this wretched advertising slogan affixed itself to my signature, I guess I have been spammed, scammed or infected, but I sure would like to get rid of it.

I have done all the normal type cleanup things, and I really do not wish to spend a week or more studying the technical books and websites, if I could just find a pro who would do it for me I would gladly pay the going rate.

Is that the pesky signature? It looks to me like that's probably why you're not connecting to the wireless either.

I don't understand those things much, but that's not a virus (or at least, it doesn't Google as a virus.)

I always find the crowd at

And this forum was able to help me when I gave up on the tech support from my provider:

It looks suspiciously like a sig tacked onto the end of a free service to me. I see them on mail sent from Yahoo email addresses all the time.

I post on these boards through Free.Teranews.com (which is sponsored by a German university) via Mozilla Thunderbird( which also does not have commercial attachments) which is I why I think my account has been hijacked. BTW, it does not seem to happen when I post on the aol proprietary boards, nor does it appear in my regular e-mail.

I'm still baffled, but maybe I can find a new geek soon. This wretched bronchitis is still with me, and it REALLY slows me down.

I only go to the Usenet for a half-dozen newsgroups, all connected with fiber arts. Can you possibly direct me to somewhere I can find out more free or low-cost servers?

Thank you again.

I'm afraid that these days, those ads are probably going to be the price you pay for having a free service.

Have you thought about finding an ISP that provides newsgroup access?

Pretty cheap at $5.95/month for their Premium Usenet Service Basic, and it's $3.33/month if you pay for a year in advance.....

Newsguy is $5.95 a month, that's less than the cost of two lattes.
