Early Warning Alert...heathens need not reply ;)

The Fat Man is making his list...what's on your Christmas To-Do Project agenda, and how far along are you? I only bring this up now because summer went by at warp speed. I'm not sure if this is a 'getting older' thing, or if Time really has speeded up. I suspect the latter. Me, I'm getting over a bronchitis/viral thing, and wondering where the summer went. If anyone has seen my vacation, please tag it and send it to me--in my imagination, it looks like two weeks on Bora-Bora, in a hut built over clear turquoise water. I saw a show on this place where they canoed up to the hut with your din-din.(They used a real canoe, not a kayak). Works for me. Well, back to the tag line: some people may not even get coal this year, they are so far out of grace. The rest of my list requires mailing, which fees have gotten ungodly, so last year, I sent gift certificates. Less money on postage=more money for gifts. The exception to this are always the GBebes, who get piles of nice Gmama produced clothes. I'm thinking of making a trunk full of dress-up things, since the GBs are all hams. Last year I sent them a karioke machine, with mike, cameras, etc. It was a smash hit, so costumes would be a complement. That's all I know, which ain't much. Happy sewing. Cea

It sounds like an exciting project, both to sew and to make! :)

Cea - Be sure to include lots of scarves - better known as rectangles of fabric - to be used as capes, turbans, sarongs, harem pants, etc. Fuels their imaginations!!!

Hey Cea, I think my summer and your summer must have taken a vacation together. Do you suppose we'll get double our vacation next year? Or that they'll be deliriously happy and produce a whole flock of little vacations?

Anyhow, I thought I'd remind folks of the fixed-price US Priority mailing boxes. All you can cram into a "sweater-sized" cardboard box (obtainable from them for free) for about $8. The lady at the PO shakes her head when I bring a box in for mailing, as she swears I'm sending lead bricks -- the last one would have cost $26 first class, and almost that much parcel post.

(The only reason I'm mentioning this old news is that my aunt had never heard of it and called to yell at me for spending so much on postage when I sent her a shipment of chocolate. Guess she didn't look at the postage actually on the box.)

How come some cruise line isn't sending us too-good-to-believe offers of a rec.crafts.textiles.sewing and alt.sewing cruise? Huh? How come? We would be willing to let them cater to our every need, wouldn't we?

Absotootly!!! Hey, actually, wouldn't that be a fun way for a bunch of us to meet in *real* space? ;-)

Cea, Nothing quite so much fun as making costumes for kids who will enjoy them. I made a big dress up box for my niece when she was little. I had fun going through fabric stores looking for the fun remnants to induce creativity. Add a feather boa or two if there aren't any allergies involved. You can take advantage of the post Halloween sales soon for good deals on fancy fabrics and costume accessories too. I don't suppose they clear out the patterns afterward but I did find a deal at W-world (Walmart) on selected costume patterns. They were $3.95 instead of the $14.95 listed in the book. I love these kinds of projects. I also love Halloween when my girls let me make their costumes. Last year they wanted purchased. This year they are back to Mom making them. My younger daughter wants to be a pirate and my older daughter picked out quite the dress pattern.

She wants the black and red version. It will be fun. I have to do some alterations to reduce it to her size a bit. I may be back for advice on that. Marilyn in MN

--- Great idea! Scarves, boas, a stock of halloween costume patterns, and a cruise for us! I'm more than ready for some fun. Hancock and/or Joanne's has patterns for 99 cents, so I'll stock up on an assortment of costumes Chocolates, as Joanne also offered, would be cheerfully accepted, regardless of shipping costs...one should never look a gift box in the flap... Hey Cea!!

Hmm, holiday sewing.....well, I really only have the V family tradition of flannel pajama pants to make. Of course, I need to find the *right* flannel . Was at JoAnns today and found 2 different flame flannels - red/yellow on blue that could go for DH and DS and pink/purple on a darker purple that could go for me and DD....didn't buy it though because we already went through first round of bills for the month and can't buy anything extra until second round...it was SO much easier when we got paid once a month!!!

Instead, I'm working on getting clothing made for the munchkins to wear to school when the weather gets cooler. I actually did THIS year's holiday shopping at the day after CHristmas sale LAST year, and they are all wrapped and ready to be boxed and sent....less stress for me, and more time to get sewing done!!!

I agree with the suggesti> The Fat Man is making his list...what's on your Christmas To-Do
