I'm a member of the UK group, but it's very low traffic. The highest traffic sewing group is alt.sewing.

If you are in a wheelchair, you may find that you need extra length in the back of skirts for added coverage and comfort. There are not many patterns about that cater to this sort of need, but there are a few books. I'll look them up and see what I can find.

Where in the UK are you? I'm down in Kent, if that's any help to you.

Dear Angiexx,

If you have a straight skirt pattern that fits you well, you can make it into an A-line skirt. Slash through the center of the darts, front and back, all the way to the hem. Tape the darts closed. Now you have an A-line skirt.

Thank You both very much.....I felt sure everyone would be out shopping....so it was a nice surprise to find you at home..... In reply to Kate's question....I am not in a wheelchair...24/7........but cutting out is very very difficult.....And painfull most of the time........ The only skirts I have are shop bought.......But i would love to be able to do this myself...I find sewing very therapeutic...

Judging by your site Kate.....you are a very busy lady.......I live in Bedfordshire.......Hubby has just gone out for his game of bowls....so I won't have him hovering around me.....:-))

I'm off to visit a part-time wheelchair using friend who also sews this afternoon. She's just had a knee replaced, and then broke her toe! :( Anyway, I'll ask her hwat she does about cutting out. I'm lucky in that while I can neither stand nor sit still for too long (I have fibromyalgia), I *do* have a cutting-out table that is the height of a kitchen worktop, so I can cut in comfort! :) Well, except when the RSI and the hands are playing up... Then I drop things a lot!
