I searched the google archives for alt.sewing, where these have
been discussed before:

And to save you some time:

You would have to size it up for an adult.

LOL  I think You and Kay got this one covered.  ;)  My only tip on these
type of do-rags is go ahead and line them with something.  You don't have
to line the band around the front that becomes the ties.  I do a lot of
these for my BIL.  He's "follically challenged."  (IOW, not so much hair
left any more.)  He really likes these type hats.  So for summer, I make
them for him out of quilting cottons (with all type of WILD prints) and
line them with baby terry cloth.  He says that works great.  For winter, I
line them with 100% cotton flannel, prewashed in hot a couple times.  It's
very soft, and keeps his head cozy in the winter.  :)  Most of the patterns
I've seen are all about the same, so pick whichever one you makes the most
sense to you.

Would one of the hat patterns in Wild Things work?  The price is right!
(its free)

I don't know any welders so don't know what the criteria are for a good
welding hat!
