Camera for club demos?

Hi, all,

A friend who regularly attends a carving club says they use a small camera called an X-10 which the demonstrator hangs around his/her neck to show the activity. I found the camera on the web - color, RF tramsits to a receiver connected to a TV. The price for a camera, receiver, and a charger is only $80. Sounds too good to be true.

Anyone else using this? Results acceptable?

Thanks in Advance,

Ron... These cameras are sold by Woodchuckers in Toronto, Ontario..They have been used in doing woodturning demos, I know of two clubs in this area that use them with success...

Yeah, I have a bunch of X10 product which I like and eventually I bought a camera. It worked rather well by remote control and featured a handy wireless operatation. I returned it under warranty because the first one had a bad colour flaw and the replacement as well had resolution in the category of "sucked bad". No more of these cameras for me. You get what you pay for. There's several other small cameras avaible on the internet but they'll cost twice as much and probably perform as well as anything else on your tv - which the X10 CAN NOT do.

Our turning club purchased a pair of video cameras from

which we saw in use at the NH Turning Symposium this spring. A basic setup on their web site is listed for $120 and includes camera, ac adapter, wired microphone and 25 ft of signal cable.

They may be a little more expensive but they work very well. We use them each club meeting to display our turning demos onto a TV camera. It has improved our participation since our club has been growing and seeing a demo was starting to get to be impossible.

The cameras are very small and easy to use. One of the club members, Richard Vose, built a frame from tubes and shop-made wood connectors.

Since it's sold by a turning vendor specifically for this purpose, it just all plugged together and worked. It did not need any fine tuning or personal touches.

I have seen this setup at the club and I must say that the resolution is EXCELLENT. They far exceeded my expectations. We're going to get some for our club also.

We have several of the Woodchucker cameras that we use for demonstrations at our club and they are fabulous. Simple to use, rugged, dependable -- and the quality of the image and sound is excellent.
