Where do you live? Have you checked your local Craig's List? Marc

Then get a HF 14", with or without riser block. If you are patient you can get it for about $160.00. Once you get it set up, it will do almost anything you want a bandsaw to do.

Dr. Deb is correct, Harbor Freight is about the least expensive of any source and they do have a fairly good guarantee program. I personally, purchased a Grizzly 14 inch bandsaw and used it for a number of years. I think it will cost in the neighborhood of $300, maybe a bit more now.

Don't however purchase one of the cheap three wheel bandsaws. I first purchased one of those and had nothing but frustration. I scrapped it and purchased the 14" Grizzly about 10 years ago and used it for several years.

About five years ago, I was in at the woodworking show in the Vancouver, Canada area and was in the market for an 18 inch bandsaw. Every brand manufacturer was represented there. I decided on a new 18" bandsaw by General International of Canada and purchased one. Unfortunately, they only had one and it was something like four months before they could deliver it. I think it was about $1,000 US. It has been a good saw, but has taken some tuning at times.

I have the HF 14" with the riser kit. Good enough.

But, if money is tight and time is not, Google around and I think you will be able to come up with plans for making your own that will save even more while giving you latitude to own a larger capacity machine.

Hi Chris

There's a Laguna 24 in the classified on WC, good saw, but maybe not near you, size and price etc. for you to decide.

you aint gonna get cheep and good all in the same package unless you find a deal on something used. if you go cheap you will most likely get exactly what you paid for.

Cheap is easy.

Good is easy.

Good, cheap does not exist new.

Good, cheap can sometimes be found used, but you need to be able to evaluate the tool effectively under often less than ideal conditions. You may also need to invest in replacing replaceable parts, such as bearings and tires. And you need to be patient, as used tools are only available when the prior owner disposes of them. But they are out there if you look.
