??Easy way of fitting tailstock to Record CL4

Has anyone discovered an easy way to put the tailstock back on a Record CL4 lathe? I have such a machine that I am delighted with but I make hollow forms and with using such long tools, I have to remove the tailstock. That isn't the problem - the problem comes in trying to refit it back to the bed bars. You have to feed the handle up into the tailstock and onto a nut which you are trying to hold in place.

I just wondered whether anyone had found an easy way

Many thanks

Paul

Hello all,

Since I've got a big Delta, and the Midi Lathe has been sitting idle for quite a while now, I'm considering selling it to a co-worker who is interested in getting into turning.

I haven't entirely decided what I should ask for it, so I was wondering if any of you have some input regarding a fair price.

It's about two years old, and in good condition. The original plastic handles have been replaced with some higher quality ones, but the starting cap is bad on it, requiring a little spin on the handwheel to start the lathe (I never wanted to fix this, as this allows the lathe to run in reverse, but I can see how that might affect the price.) I plan to include a spur center, live center, knockout bar and the Oak veneered MDF cabinet it's mounted on. I might part with the cheap carbon steel turning tools I bought while waiting for the set I use now to arrive, and I might toss in a Grizzly 4-jaw chuck as well, if what I sell the whole package for is enough to buy a better one.

The only other small defects are some slight cosmetic imperfections on the tailstock barrel, where the set screw slipped out of the groove at some point or another, and scratched the finish.

While I like this little lathe, I don't use it anymore, and selling it would free up some room in the turnery to install an engine lathe in there. I'm still not 100% sure I want to let it go, but if I can get a decent price for it, it's probably going to end up in a new home.

Any thoughts?

A year ago I sold mine (with many accessories that would not fit the new lathe) for $250 on eBay (local pickup)
