I got a book like that, although not as old, at an estate sale. It was apparently a textbook and, IIRC, from about 1940. Amazing how few tools they thought were needed :-).

good advice on using skew chisels which i have already tried

i was not using my skews much and now i do and they are handy

One thing that has added through the years -

Fingernail skews Bowl skews

Bowl are blunt Fingernail are long oval like cutting edge. Normal is in between.

never heard of them but will look into that

i know bowl gouges with a fingernail grind on them but have not seen skews like that
