Is Poolewood gone?

I was just talking to another wood grinder last Saturday and we were talking about used lathes. Someone in his aquintance is looking to sell his used Poolewood Euro2000, but at $6500 for it and all its goodies, he doesn't want to take a chance.

Without starting a thread on all the other fine lathes that are out there for that kind of money or less, I was just wondering if this was true. Anyone hear anything concrete?

That's a lot of money in any case unless he has some great tools with it. Here's a URL with new prices:

The company web page at doesn't say anything about the company disappearing, but maybe they're the last to know :-)

The company is not gone, but they have a limited line of lathes. They had a falling out with the company who made the lathes (I'm not sure why). The people who manufactured the lathe for Poolewood, Silverdrive, have come out with a new line of lathes. I'm not sure who has parts for the Poolewood lathes.

Does anyone know if Silverdrive has an outlet somewhere in the US? This looks like a good lathe. I had planned to purchase a Poolewood in the near future but since they don't sell larger lathes anymore this might be an alternative.

Poolewood and Silverdrive parted company here in the UK, both companies have now gone their seperate ways. Silverdrive have always manufactured the lathes, they were marketed and sold by Poolewood.

Silverdrive took their original Euro 2000 lathe and used this as a basis for their new Statesman range of lathes, a range that covers various motor sizes and swing heights, these can be found on the Silverdrive site shown above. They also included a number of improvements which resulted in feedback both from the United States and the UK.

I worked with Silverdrive at their British launch where the Statesman lathes proved to be well received, this and one subsequent show has resulted in a large number of orders for the lathes right across the range.

With regard to selling lathes in the US, I know this is one of the markets that Silverdrive would like to enter and they hope to be doing so in the future.

I don't buy a car without test driving it. I think that it would make sense for you to turn on all of the high-end lathes before you make a buying decision.

I suspect that you would have no problem doing that. Even if nobody in your local club has a lathe of interest, each of the manufacturers can put you in touch with an owner somewhere near you and most turners are pretty nice people who are happy to invite you into their shop.

How about painting them a nice blue colour instead of that hideous purple?
