This one isn't mine. A member of the Silicon Valley Woodturners, Kent Mosley made this piece that relies on actual movement to really be appreciated. An elegantly simple idea - two equally sized shallow bowls joined top to top by a turned sphere - set off center.
When the piece is rolled, it may start off slowly and accelerate - then slow down - and roll some more. When it can't roll in its initial direction, or rolls back and forth for minutes before coming to rest.
Shooting video of this thing in action took about an hour to get about
15 minutes of raw footage to work with and an hour of editing to get the assembled clips down to a single minute long video. Getting a good still photo of a static piece is simple compared to doing a video of a dynamic piece, especially one that moves so far.charlie b
