Musing about rcw. Clinical examination shows that it's not moribund.

For our new and old members whether Gentlemen/women or Crotchety Ole Coots (COCs). The news of rcw's demise has been exaggerated!

Didja ever notice that our rcw members who turn innovative as well as fine artistic pieces are first and last good woodturners. Skilled in the basics, they've paid their dues. Charlie, Mac, Kevin, Bill, Fred, Tom and Leo are good examples. There are many others still active here and, of course there's our illustrious alumni & alumna such as Russ Fairfield, Andi Wolfe, and Ruth Niles. John Jordan used to check in with helpful and wise comments. There's room for every turner here, whether their bowls leak or their pens write ...or their objects move.

I suppose that when any group of craftsman-artists use the net to communicate there will be disagreements. We've had our share, some quite acrid, but always the acrimony has been repaired. Altogether rcw is now and always has been a helpful NG with a proud history for learning, sharing and socializing. Let's keep it that way.

Fall weather is near (well maybe not in S. Fl.) Go turn something, then ask questions or answer others' queries here. Be sure to share what you know. The rest of us want to know what you guys are up to. Particularly we COCs who can't wait to deplore the situation. At my age I can't wait too long. :)

You made a lot of good points Arch. Unfortunately, the newsgroup is being bombarded by spam until it is hard to find the woodturning posts. I don't do as much posting anymore because of the large number of spam that hides the posts. I've mostly shifted to the WoodCentral Message Board for woodturning. It is moderated and keeps spam out.

I don't see Any spam here. Perhaps eternal-september does a better job of filtering than tour source?

Fred, if you use Google Groups you unfortunately deserve all the spam you see.

Try a free news server and a real news client.

I see, perhaps, 6 - 10 spam messages PER YEAR on r.c.w.

Same here. I'm using aioe.org (free) and Pan (Linux) for news.
