steady jig

got some multi ply that is very stiff i think it is 3/8 and made a steady jig along with some roller blade skate wheels

used wing nuts on the bolts to secure it to the bed and then made a small wrench out of wood or course

not sure how i got by without but i found anything over 13 or 14 inches depending on the species was not producing good results and this jig really makes a big difference

had not thought much about the speed of the wheels and it turns out that it did not matter as the wheels are going slower than when they were on the skates

I needed to make a new one for the Woodfast, as the one for the Jet simply would not fit. I doubled up two 3/4" plywood and it is as steady as a rock.

One question, for the group, "How do you post a picture?"

Since it looks like you're posting from Google Groups, you'll have to upload it to a server somewhere and link to it here. Google has an image sharing service or you can use one of the others.

that sounds substantial

i got by with this 3/8 material since it is so rigid and since the forces are perpindicular to the axis of the lathe rotation it is working well plus my lathe is small

I finally got time to take a couple of pictures of mine. If you look, you can see the fitting that goes between the ways on the bed.

The ring is doubled up 3/4" ply, the arms are 3/4" walnut and the rollers are off an inline skate.
