A Question of Yarn ...

I don't notice it either, but I pay no attention to gauge anyway. I generally use a much larger needle than the pattern calls for.

I've done that if I'm very familiar with the pattern.

I still need patterns.

I only use a pattern to get an idea of the basic shaping or stitch pattern and basically just knit it my own way.

Murieele we all need a pattern from time to time , But i found that writing up my patterns teaches me to make my own ,,, if i only read it it doesn`t get rooted in my mind ,,, if i write it down it sort of explains to me the WHY of it all , mirjam

If you can allow yourself and keep the swatches than you can also sew them into a UNIQUE afgahn of all your creations. It will grow slowly over some years , but it is worth it . mirjam

I have used a larger needle too. Some are just to thin for me to handle comfortably.

I've knitted blankets (my own very simple design) from leftover bits of wool: very colourful and busy, but fun.

I'm not the fastest knitter on the planet, but I have started the back. I'm hoping to finish it tonight or tomorrow at the latest. My plan is to finish the pullover before the weekend so I can focus on the other gifts I have to have ready for the 9th.

Now that I'm making things again I'm going to start keeping a stash of "gifts" so that I don't get into this mad rush again. I just never feel I'm doing my best when I'm hurrying.

That is also a great idea! I did that one year, and at least one of the people I gave a gift to in a big cloth bag still uses the bag.

Hi,

I finished the little pullover last Saturday and it was dropped off for the birthday girl on Wednesday. I took a picture of it but haven't had my film developed. When I do I will post it. It's not great, or particularly anything, but finished.

Thank you all who helped. I couldn't have done it without you.

It took a while but I finally remembered that this isn't the newsgroup I usually find you in ... I'd love to claim I'm having a bad day, but these days all days are like this.

Spike Driver! Hey! ;-))
