another beginner question...

ok...

i've managed to made a few scarfs, i've learned to knit, to purl and have switched from knitting "american" to "continental"..thank you knittinghelp.com!!

here's my question...what would then be a "next" project to try and tackle? and what is knitting sideways???

any finally...i've seen on the net the book big girl knits...anygood? anything achievable by a very rank beginner???

thank you all--as someone who quilts and did needlework for years...knitting is so much fun! (and i love LOVE the various fibers!!)

Hallo Betsy !!!!! Now what is it you NEED , most of all , a sweater ? a vest !!! YOU CAN DO ANY THING you want to . It is iinteresting that you ask about side way knitting ,,, Could you please take a pencil and a piece of paper ,,, draw a sweater , now fold the paper at the shoulder and cut it double Open you have now waht at firts looks like 2 sweaters but in fact you have Opened the complete sweater ,,, now take one sleve and lay it before your shortest side near you imagine that you start to knit that sweater from the CUFF , you knit up and up till the arm pit ,,, here you add sti for the front and back and you knit them from hem to shoulder to hem and back ,,,, after some while you will make a hole for the head ] for starters make a square hole ,,,,,knit till it is wide enough close the hole and knit till it is all wide enough , now you cast off both sides and knit the sleeve till the cuff ... \that is that mirjam

Why not try a simple cardigan, perhaps a baby/toddler sweater? Most yarn companies have free patterns on their sites rated by skill level.

Knitting sideways is simply knitting a project from side to side, ie, a sweater from cuff to cuff instead from bottom up/or top down.

I would recommend a hat so you can learn how to knit in the round. Or, like someone else suggested, a baby sweater. Both projects will help you learn skills that you can apply to almost anything later on. Good luck and welcome to the knitting fold!
