Do any of you guys own this book? I keep seeing it mentioned all over the place and was wondering exactly what's in it.

Unknown Binding: 56 pages Publisher: D. Reade (1968) Language: English ASIN: B0007FG5QG

This is what Amazon.com has to say about it. They do not have it nor do they have ANY other information. My other book places do not even list any info about it.

According Amazon.com, it's out of print. Another website states that it's a 56-page "self-published" book, copyright 1968.

Dorothy Reade's 25 Original Knitting Designs

From the cover picture and comments, she seems to have designed lace patterns using, among other things, Peruvian Cats (similar to ancient Peruvian Indian weaving designs) and some other cat designs.

As a devotee of libraries, I always try to locate a library copy of any book I want to see. For this one, I had to go to WorldCat which lists 7 libraries that have it. They are San Francisco State University Library in California, Ball State University Library in Indiana, Adair County Public Library and Saint Louis County Library in Missouri, American Craft Council Library in New York, Washington County Cooperative Library in Oregon, and Toronto Public Library in Ontario. All of them are too far from me to request the book via interlibrary loan without paying a fee so I'll probably never see this one. You might be able to contact any of these libraries and ask for information on the book's content. Many libraries have Web sites with a link or email address to use for submitting questions. Let me know if you would like help in locating the Web sites.

Thanks Jan and everyone else for all your help in finding out about this book. Probably not worth the US$75 that it's available for, but I'll keep an eye out at the local knitting guild libraries when I move because it's definitely something I'd liek to see in person.

I found an old posting on KnitU. Back in 2002 (I think) Meg Swanson bought up the remaining copies (found in the garage after the author's death) and sold them through her website (they are all sold now). They were self-published books. So libraries and eBay might be the only places they can be found now.

Forgot to say - I also found reference on the Victorian spinners site

They might have thebook in their library. Worth a try.

Assuming Meg Swanson was in touch with the heirs - the heirs would have the copyright. Do they know it? Could they be persuaded to allow a reprint edition?
