Cher you are very welcome, great that it got there so fast.

I mailed a birthday gift for my brother in Holland, last month, at the 21 of Jan. It costs over $70 to mail out, no less. I first took the parcel home again, no way was I going to pay that kind of money. My husband and son told me to go back and mail it out. It is still traveling at this point. I got a tracing # from Canada post. Every day I look to see if it has arrived yet. It must be traveling around Cape Horn in South America. Canada post is very slow, and is now a profit making organization. No more good service at all. At least that is what I find.

Hi Els:

I'll second that about "Canada Post". I have a girlfriend of 40 yrs that now lives in Whitehorse, Yukon and it can take up to 2 weeks for a regular letter to arrive at her doorstep.... BTW I viewed your pictures as well and found them very interesting/nice....great job on getting your pictures there too....I'd not have a clue where to start. I leave those jobs for the other people in my house .

Hi Ladies,

Don't feel bad, it took six days to get a card from Conn. to me, which is only about 500 miles or less. I mailed a package on a Monday morning and it was there in 24 hours, now a card took six, go figure.

Hugs,

I agree, Els. In November I sent Christmas packages to my Dad in Ireland and our kids in NZ. The Irish one arrived yesterday and the NZ one has not been seen yet........

Donna, I had absolutely no plans at all the have a website. That all changed when I got this new computer for my birhtday. Apple makes it fairly easy to get it set-up. As well as being pushed by a pushy daughter....(guess where she is getting that from, ha, ha) I have sort of gotten there. It is like trying to row a boat at the edge of the stream and all of a sudden you are in the middle of the river going like mad. God forbit there will be a water fall coming up around a bend......LOL for now I am still sitting in the middle of the boat and have some comand of stearing the darn boat....

Yes Eimear that sounds exactly like sending mail the cheaper and slower way to Holland.

BTW we had a great meeting yesterday, Hannah showed us all kind of great knitting tricks and odds and ends. We did all kinds of different casts on(s); starting new yarns, when you ran out of yarn, in different ways. Fixing balls of yarns in a muddle etc. We ran out of time and will look at some more at the next textile day at my house.

Hi Els:

Yes, atleast you do have some command. You surely wouldn't want to be caught upstream without a paddle .

Did she have a good trick for getting the end of the yarn out of a new ball without pulling out half of it? That can be so frustrating for many of us.

Jan she had a solution for that. Or more a less what you do when it does come out in a big blob, what you do after...LOL

Hannah mailed us all a page with all the information she gathered for this meeting. Would you like me to E-mail it to you. It is a very long list of things??

Are you ready for this one? Matthew filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour (GOVERNMENT OFFICE) against a previous employer in August of 2002 for withholding part of his pay. When we hadn't heard anything by the following March, I called the Ministry again and asked what was going on.... we got a letter from them stating that they had sent his former boss a letter of complaint and that he had 30 days to appeal it if he was going to... if not and if he didn't pay it willingly they would send it off to a collection agency to retrieve the money owing to Matthew.

I have called the Ministry a few more times since then (giving them a month or so in between to get their acts together), because Matthew is never home during the day to make the calls himself due to working. Finally back in the fall I was told that there was a cheque issued and that it would be here within two weeks. FOUR weeks later I called again "It isn't here!"... they checked and sure enough it had been issued and sent out, but never cashed. They put a Stop Payment on it, and re-issued another cheque and I was told it would be here within two weeks *again*. THREE weeks later I called again "Guess what? It isn't here *again*!" Once again they checked and it had been issued and sent out, but never cashed... so once again they re-issued another cheque and I was told AGAIN that it would be here within two weeks. This time the woman gave me her direct number to call back if it didn't show up, and I was told if the other cheque showed up to send it back as it would have a Stop Payment on it. I called last Friday and left a message on her answering machine telling her it had been over the two weeks and once again the cheque still wasn't here. She called me back on Monday morning and was very apologetic and said "This is just ridiculous! I have no idea where they keep going. I even verified your address the last time we spoke (she had), so there is no excuse for this. Are you having a problem with your mailman, perhaps?" No... we don't have door-to-door delivery in this small town, I pick it up at the Post Office, and the town is small enough and we have lived here our entire lives, that they would know which box to put it in. She said she would check into it again.

She called me this morning and gave me the name and direct phone number for the person in charge of sending out the cheques. They checked on it and sure enough it had been issued and sent, but not cashed... so they are putting a stop payment on it. Matthew has to call this guy to give him permission to send the cheque by courier to the house! This is the only way he will ever get this money owed to him since 2002. Totally ridiculous!

Oh that is SO annoying! I bought one of those HUMONGOUS balls of Red Heart yarn from WalMart just before Christmas, thinking that I might like to start on the red and black afghan for Matthew that I had spoken about a couple of years ago and never got around to doing yet. When I tried to find the end to pull out, I ended up with a large snarled bit, with no end in sight at all. The smaller large (I know, that's an oxymoron, but I know what I mean) balls of Red Heart yarn are fine and I never have a problem like that at all. I finally just got fed up with it... stuffed the large snarled bit back inside the ball and returned it to the store for a refund. I figured I would just buy a smaller one when they had the colour I wanted in stock... never had the money to do it again, so Matthew's afghan still isn't started.

*shrug*

Hi Gemini,

I know what you mean as I've had that problem with the giant balls of Red Heart and also the Pound of Love by Lion Brand. In fact last week I emailed Lion Brand as the skein I'm using is full of tangles and knots that I got fed up with it. When I went to find the pull end, a big wad of yarn that wasn't even attached came out then I had to dig into the middle and pull out even more to find it. I did hear back from them and I'm sending them the wrapper and they will replace the skein for me.

Hugs,

Nora

That's good that you will get a replacement skein from Lion Brand, Nora.

I was thinking that it's good to know I'm not the only one who had that problem with the giant balls of Red Heart... but maybe it's not such a good thing... that means it isn't an isolated incidence. :o/ I was kind of hoping that it was just that one (or a few) ball that did it and that if I bought another giant ball in the future it wouldn't do the same thing. But maybe I'll just stick with the other large balls that aren't the giant sized ones, since I haven't had many problems with those before.
