Good Sunday morning to those left in the group and the others I hope are at least lurking if not posting,
Dealing with a puzzling car problem the past couple days. The battery acted like it was dead, jumped the car, and it started and ran fine, and the next morning, the battery acted like it was dead again! So pulled it out, took it down, and it tested out fine. Changed battery cable, because we thought it might be that as the old one had some grundge on it. Nope, still having intermittent problems.
As far as crafting goes, I'm done with the ankle and foot of the second crocheted sock. It will be a frat twin of the first one I made, as I'm slightly redesigning the whole thing for a better custom fit to my feet. So far so good, but with the car problem, I have not been able to finish it this week. I have to tweak the heel, because having only paired decreases makes it a bit tight with the additional strand of Woolly Nylon worked with it, but the toe (made exactly the same as the heel on the first sock with paired decreases) will remain like it is. I just need to have time to get the heel tweaked, and then I can weave in the ends and hopefully get a picture posted on my site of my first pair of custom made crocheted socks. I have plenty of Woolly Nylon left, so I can make more pairs of socks. I have in mind to knit a pair next, but decisions have to be made as to HOW it will be knit, round on DPNs or flat on 2 NDLS, afterthought or short row heel, how thick a wool, etc. I like the idea of being able to completely change the heel and toe sections of my socks like I can on my crocheted pair, so I may do knit socks the same way. Time will tell.
Has anyone ever combined wool and cotton in socks? I have some great locally grown and spun cotton yarn, and I'd like to make socks from that for the summer (next summer at the rate I'm going now!), but I worry that the top won't be elastic enough to stay up, so I was wondering if anyone had made wool ribbing and a cotton sock body? I figured it would be cool enough because the wool would only be around the ankle, but maybe not. I also have heard of running with a strand of elastic in cotton ribbing, but that can wear out. Anyone have any suggestions for knitting 100% cotton socks?
