Good Sunday Morning!

Hi All,

I'm up early and on my way to the flea market with my daughter, in-laws, aunt and cousins. This is the first time the family has tried to sell things, so it should be an adventure. I have my spiral rib socks tucked away in the bag along with some cooler clothes and sunscreen - it's supposed to be sunny and warm today.

Have a peaceful day, Joy

Good luck at the flea market, Joy. I am almost finished the slippers you shared with us. My, they knit up quickly, don't they?

Good morning, Joy AND RCTY! I've been up since approx 5:30 am CDT, (-5 GMT during DST, -6 GMT normally!) We're spending a quiet day, I'm getting ready for International Knit In Public Day, which is June 10th. I'm organizing a local knit-out, have the press releases out, a temp site up, etc. We'll be knitting in the Gazebo on the town Square in Watertown, Tennessee from 9 till 1.... I'll need to bring something 'mindless', as I'm sure there will be plenty of people stopping to ask questions, etc, and I don't think it'd be nice to mumble and grumble "let me finish this row" before answering or acknowledging, so.... /methinks it'll be socks, which I can drop and chat easily. Need to update my blog today too, and surf my favourites.... Don's got a VA appt. tuesday. Hugs, Noreen

Good Morning Everyone!

I got up before 7:00 and put dried beans in the crock pot for baked beans later on. We're going to grill hotdogs & corn on the cob, have home made cole slaw & baked beans this afternoon.

DH is making Sunday breakfast & the boys are playing pretend under the dining room table. I was able to knit some more on the branching out scarf.

I'm being summoned to help with breakfast!

DS#1 stopped by yesterday and DH did a duck on the rotisserie. I made rhubarb custard pie and rice pilaf (sp?). We also had some asparagus I got at the local farmers market. (They had lots of asparagus, rhubarb, spinach and other such spring things yesterday. The farmers market takes over the Sears store's parking lot Saturday mornings from May through October.) Judy

Greetings group :)

I have no specific plans for today, other than recovering from helping my DS and DIL move yesterday. I'm exhausted! I can't imagine how tired they must be. But I'm really excited for them , this is their first house. I think DH is as tired as I am, but he wants to grill hamburgers today. He had planned on smoking a brisket (he's the main cook in the house), but he changed his mind after yesterday :)

I'm finally to the foot of my sock. It looks like it will be kinda big, but I knew I wanted the next pair to be on smaller needles. These will be lounging socks.

Hi, BB! what size needles ARE you using for the current pair? and, what size will you go down to on the next? I like using 001's 0's and 1's, myself (depending on yarn) Noreen waving!

I just got a set of five brittany 1's -- the little five inch ones - and am eager to try them out. i have been using 2's for my socks but I think I might be able to do at least the ankle portion on 1's. The foot part fits well but I would like the ankle part a little snugger. My excuse for getting the new short dps is that I lost one of my #1 dps in Las Vegas. I was doing some small socks - toddler size - at the time. DH tried on my new merino/tencel socks and has decided he would like me to make him some socks - but they need to be slightly longer than mine. He needs the size 2 needles, though, as his ankles are thicker. (His feet are just a little bit bigger - his feet and hands are basically the same size as mine even though he is about 6 feet tall.) I have some nice varigated grey yarn to make him a pair.

I'm using 2 (US) needles with Jawoll Cotton Sock yarn. I guess after I finish one and try it on, then I'll decide whether the next ones should be on 1s or 0s. I'm using 5 inch Brittany birch needles. I really like the shorter length but it looks like a stitch may have fallen off a few rows back (and I'm NOT frogging again - not at this point - lol) so I may go with the longer needles next time to hopefully avoid that problem again.

I've been looking, so far in vain, for cotton/wool sock yarn in vivid solid colors. I'm envisioning a gingham (yes, I know not the most trendy, but I've always loved gingham :) ) done in blues and white. Lots of 100% wool options though. I don't know if I'd like 100% wool socks.

I was working on my sock when with a few friends and none of them understood why anyone would make socks. Before we were done, I had enough finished that we could put it over our hand to get a feel for it. The looks on their faces as they realized how neat it would feel was pretty funny :)

With pleasure. Here is the picture of Joy's (one) slipper. She ran out of wool and has to get some more.

is the pattern:

And here are Joy's changes. When I had it all knit and sewn, but before felting, I picked up in every stitch around the top with one strand of wool and one strand of eyelash yarn and knit three rounds. I also used size 13 needles because I have a narrow foot.

I used the size 15 needles, and all I have left to do is the fuzzy stuff around the top. I may crochet that, depending on how it goes with DPNs.

Judy, you have triggered a craving for rhubarb custard pie; my mother made the BEST. I bought some rhubarb at the farmers market yesterday but I don't do pies so it will be cooked into a sauce.

We are having an usually hot (just heard it's already 93 F. at 1:30 PM) and humid weekend. It's not my kind of weather so I'm spending the day indoors.

After breaking one of my bamboos, I bought the Brittany birch recently. I've only used them for one pair of Sockotta cotton/wool/nylon yarn. The birch seemed a little "stickier" than the bamboo but maybe it was the yarn which I had not used before. My preferred size needle is 1 (2.25mm).

I knitted it. I will take a picture of the unfelted product later, and then of the felted one after I do it. SO far, so good!

Having first learned to use DPN's when sets of 4 were more popular, I can say that I LOVE sets of 5. SOME even come in sets of 6! (comfort zone's all do, and then some other companies offer a sixth in their sets of five with the really tiny needle sizes --like 000's) You can either knit with all six, or keep it as a spare!) Hugs, Noreen who will probably part with a lot of sets of four too.

Good for you Katherine. I have gone and printed the pattern, as well as two other patterns. The ones you made I have made when the kids were small. I am sure they lend themselves well for felting. I also found a pattern where you knit a regular pair of socks with heavy wool and on fat needles, now felt them. Simple and I bet it works. If you now take Sheilag's idea and put a pair of suede leather soles under them you will have good slippers as well. I will try it out as soon as I have finished Otto's second sock.

THe slippers are made. I will take a picture later, and then another one when I felt them. I won't be doing that tonight, though, as we have our choir concert. Plus, I have another project to knit which must be felted, and I hope to do them at the same time. Even though they are different colours, they are dark, so that shouldn't matter.
