Echoing your wishes, Els, as I wait for the turkey to thaw. We will be having it tomorrow, with lots of leftovers!

Happy Thanksgiving Day to everyone celebrating it... wherever you may be on Monday! ;o)

Matthew took our turkey out of the freezer last night and put it on the top shelf of the refrigerator to thaw slowly... so it should be good to go when the time comes. Thankfully his last unemployment cheque came last week, so we bought the turkey and all the other fixings for Thanksgiving dinner right away.

Made the mistake of buying the pumpkin pie the same time though... not a good plan with Matthew here, it was gone the next day. Then he went to the store for me the other day, and I *thought* he would buy some cookies or something for dessert.... pumpkin pie again... guess what? Gone again! I told him we aren't getting anymore pumpkin pie in the house until Sunday

*after* he has eaten a big dinner and will be too full to eat it... maybe then it will last until Thanksgiving Day! LOL Funny thing is, after eating our big turkey dinner (lunch), we're both usually quite full and therefore the pumpkin pie ends up being supper. ;o)

Although Matthew liked the homemade dressing that I made last Christmas (that turned out like my Dad's... I *tweaked* a similar sounding recipe I found in a magazine because my Dad never wrote his recipe down), he prefers dressing to be a bit drier, so he wants StoveTop Stuffing for Thanksgiving. When we have that kind, I usually mix a box of Chicken Stuffing with a box of Turkey Stuffing as we aren't crazy about either of them on their own, but together it's nice. I will likely make the homemade kind again for Christmas, but do a large pan of it for Matthew *outside* the turkey so it isn't moist.

Anyway.... Happy Turkey Day to everyone!! :o)

Peace! Gemini

Just rereading my own story about turkey dinner and pumpkin pie... and it reminded me about when I was about 7 or 8. My older sister (the oldest one had been gone and married a few years by this point) and one of our uncles had a contest one Thanksgiving to see which of them could eat the most.

Now you have to realize that we had a HUGE turkey (big get-together), with mashed potatoes, turnip (rutabagas), carrots, corn, peas, dressing, cranberries (both jellied and whole berry), gravy, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and my aunt would make THE most delicious cherry tarts with whipped cream topping that anyone has ever tasted to bring along for the feast. Oh, of course there was a drink too... milk for Carol and coffee for Uncle Vick. Well Carol and Uncle Vick ate two heaping plates of dinner... with EVERYTHING on the plates (minus the desserts, of course), then had a slice of apple pie, a slice of pumpkin pie.... and Uncle Vick had to quit at that point because he was about to burst... and Carol continued on to have two of Aunt Rose's cherry tarts. No one could believe that Carol had actually eaten more than Uncle Vick.... he had a very big appetite and was a grown man, Carol on the other hand was a *skinny* teenager. Mind you, she wasn't moving too fast afterward for a while... but still, she won the contest! LOL Fun memories!

Sad thing is... I am not a thin woman by any stretch of the imagination, and I can barely make it past one plateful of turkey dinner... you'd think that I would be the thin one in the family. *sigh* If I do go back for seconds of anything, I definitely can't move for a few hours afterward. Either way, I can't have dessert for a few hours... which is why we end up having our pie for supper. ;o)

Oh, and my brother doesn't even like turkey (I think he's adopted. LOL Just kidding, he and I are too much alike for that to be the case.), so instead of turkey for Thanksgiving or Christmas, he eats hotdogs. Like SERIOUSLY... eat chicken or roast beef, or something, but HOTDOGS?!?!? LOL

Peace! Gemini

Thanks Els - and right back atcha! DH & I have for the last couple of years being attending the local church fall supper which they hold on Thanksgiving day. I love it - all that wonderful food for $9 each; and I don't have to cook and clean up afterwards. They usually have turkey, roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, 3 or 4 kinds of salads, carrots, turnips, buns & butter, tea, coffee and juice. If you can eat anything else after all that, there is a huge table laden with every dessert known to man. People can also go back for as many helpings as they want of dinner and dessert. They will also package it up for take out too. It's always well attended and the proceeds go to the church. I'm looking forward to it. ;>)

Hi,

Happy Thanksgiving Day on Monday to all of you. You are making me hungry talking about a turkey dinner. Oh well, only a month and a half away and I'll be making one too.

Hugs,

Nora

Wow! That sounds great! The only problem, as far as I would be concerned, is that I love turkey leftovers. So I guess I'll keep cooking my own.

Noreen darling, you do not need to be the first, as second poster, you come through happy and clear. I am sure your wishes to us would be just as sincere, and kind when you were the last one to send them. That you send them is what hits the mark

hugs back

Sounds good. We pass on a turkey tomorrow, for just the two of us, it is just to much meat to plow through.

Shelagh that sounds nice, I would go for that in a minute. Is it like a potluck dinner. Those are absolutely the best. Have a helping of a great dessert for me as well

Katherine do you make soup from the bones. That is what I do when the kids are here. Makes a lovely broth that I freeze for later use.

It is just the two of us, too, but we will eat it all! Turkey dinner tomorrow; hot turkey sandwiches; cold turkey sandwiches; turkey soup; plus lots of snack food for the next few days. Yum!

LOL We're definitely related, Katherine! We love turkey here too, and will find many uses for it and not waste one tiny bit of it! :o)

Peace! Gemini

- turkey burgers too (turkey cut up fine, with a bit of gravy for moisture, and put on a hamburger bun. YUMMY!)

Hi Gemini,

Tom loves fried turkey, not me, now a turkey burger sounds really good.
