Hi, Pirjo! My mother's made sweaters in this style for eons-ages, for all sizes. I have three short-sleeved t-shirt style ones she made for me, even. She doesn't have to piece hers, however, as she did them in the round. HTH, Noreen

I haven't knitted it, Pirjo, but some friends have, and they have liked it.

Hi Pirjo,

Oh, I love that pattern and will print it off tomorrow when I'm on the desktop and I may even try it as I've never done a cuff to cuff before.

Hugs,

Auntie Nora

Hi Auntie! Sometimes I think you are reading my mind...Argh...Let's hope you have success there. Someone in my time zone may knit that pattern too. Best: Pirjo

I've never tried that pattern (I tend to use something finer than worsted for babies) but I do have a - very much - larger sweater for myself which I knit cuff to cuff. It was an interesting experiment, especially as I did it in a number of different colors and used up lots of wool leftovers. I got the idea from a "Knit One Crochet Two" pattern, which I virtuously bought, although I altered a lot of things about it.

Never knitted anything that way around, always do two needles back then front then sleeves and lastly the neck bit, from bottom of welt or ribbing up to the top

I came across a pattern in a magazine one time that I tried out. It is all totally knit in bits of leftover different colours.... in one piece... you start at the bottom back (or front... doesn't really matter), knit up to the sleeves (not to the armpits... it makes a looser sleeve), cast on XX stitches at each end for the sleeves, continue knitting until you reach the neck area. Knit across part way, cast off for the neck, continue on to the end of the row, knit back and cast the stitches back on for the front (back) side of the neck... and continue knitting until the sleeves are done. Then you cast off the same number of stitches for the sleeves that you had added, and continue knitting until you have reached the bottom. Then you sew up the side seams and the bottom of the sleeves. I *think* you picked up the stitches on the ends of the arms and made cuffs if you wanted as well. I gave it to my best friend, who absolutely loved it! :o)

If I can make it work, it looks something like this before you sew the seams......

Hmmm... that looks weird, and *not* how it looked when I hit "send". It actually had closings on *both cuffs and the neck markings were not that far apart. Oh well... you get the idea anyway.

Hi Gemini! That looks great! And it is nice to know that someone else knows about this cuff to cuff-system too. I must tell you this...I am knitting a vest-kind of item - in Finnish. But no way I could do it without help. I have one Finnish girl from Finnish knitlist who helps me. I have asked sooo many questions from her..and she has always answered me. Oh she is one nice person. Best: Pirjo

Susan, I would love to see these patterns. They sound like something that would be easy and still a very nice gift.

Hi, I've seen a couple in the knitting mag ads, but never made them. But, interesting concept.

If anyone wants some quickie baby sweater patterns, I have several from old Mon Tricot magazines (I remember growling about paying the "high price" of $2.50 for these, that's how old they are). I think they all use worsted weight. A couple of them are short sleeve, which works well and fits babies for a longer time - the parents really seem to like these and they knit up quickly. Another has a drop-bib which buttons, and another a separate yoke which is attached with buttons - opportunities to use some of those really neat buttons for kids' clothing. I found car and truck buttons in different colors to use on one of them - very cute!

If anyone's interested, I will send a Word document attachment to an email.
