Kitty Coats? And other stuff ....

Hi,

My friend had a twelve pound cat, named TJ who is feeling the weather and she asked if I knew where to get a coat for him. I suggested I knit one for him. Of course, then I realized I haven't got a pattern for a kitty coat.

Can anyone direct me to a kitty coat pattern? Have any one knitted one and have adivice or a pattern to share?

Thank you so much!

Sorry I haven't been around much. I will try to do better in the future.

Also, a few people have written asking about the Princess Diana sweater patterns. My scanner is on the blink again--never fails!--but as soon as it's working I'll get the patterns out to you. I did send some based on a file already existing on my hard-drive, but it was pointed out to me that there was a problem with one of the pages.

Thanks! Murielle

Maybe look for one for a small dog; they're about the same shape and size.

Just read this over and was horrified by all the type-o's. Checked the time and I can't claim I was half asleep when I wrote it. Clearly, I wasn't paying much attention to what I was writing--sorry.

You all deserve better than that.

Land's End sells coats for dogs that would surely work for cats, too! I had one for my Yorkie, and it was great. They come in lots of sizes and colors, and I got a dayglo orange so I could see her easily at night. It was waterproof on the colored outside and knit fabric on the inside, and had Velcro closures both as a belly-band and at the collar, which meant I didn't have to pull anything over her head and didn't need to try to get her legs through anything, which animals don't like doing anyway. For an elderly Yorkie with arthritis it was great! And they're machine wash and dry and not very expensive.

Also, I used to have several "home-made" coats for her which worked very well and were a bit warmer. I took an old pair of sweatpants, measured the dog from her neck to just past her tail, and cut off the bottom of the legs to that measurement. Then I cut out the seam with a U-cut from the cut edge to about 2" from the elastic at the other end. I rounded the cut corners, and had a sort of cape. The elastic was a simple matter to stretch to slip over her head, and she could squat and do her jobs without getting anything wet. You can do the same sort of thing with sweatshirt sleeves. The price was right, the capes kept her warm and were easy on and off, and they went through the washer and dryer. By the way, the sweatpants and sweatshirt capes didn't slip or roll or get twisted at all while on the dog.

Hi Mary,

What wonderful ideas! I'm going to forward this to my email so I can refer to your directions.

I've got quite the list of crafting to do for Christmas, but I'm going to add this to the list.

Thank you, Murielle
