knitting with LEDs

Has anyone tried knitting something and embedding LEDs in it? The kind of thing that is in some kid's sneakers and makes them light up. I'm thinking of a winter hat, perhaps--for my grandson.

Mirjam, LEDs are Light Emitting Diodes, very tiny electric lights.

Janet, have you looked up on Craftzine to see if anyone has knitting ideas? i know there are LED sewn clothing ideas on there:

The great thing about LEDs is that they don't emit a lot of heat. We've got several emergency lights that used LEDs. Two are connected to the mains electricity supply and come on as soon as the mains fails then go off when the mains returns. The other two are portable lanterns powered either by 12v car battery or by a "wind up" handle that provides about 30 mins light for about a minute of winding. We've also got a small "wind up" radio for emergencies - we call it the clockwork radio

Here are a few websites for you Miriam, I found them using Google to search for "windup radio". Some of the websites have radios that are solar-powered as well as wind-up.
