Latest jumper

I've finished the latest jumper which is similar to a pattern I had years ago but which got lost on one of our house moves. From what I remembered I managed to work out something pretty near to the original.

It is knitted in Sirdar Double Knitting (equivalent to sportweight) a

100% Acrylic yarn. The sleeves and yoke are worked as panels of single moss stitch (seed stitch), a small cable and a lace central panel.

I like the plain stocking stitch body as I think it contrasts nicely with the patterned sections.

Thank you Shelagh

I enjoyed making this one but it took a little time to work out the pattern.

Thanks Donna

I made another one like this a while back in a cream colour but altered the lace panel so it wasn't quite so "holey". Since my hair has gone almost white I find the gentler, pastel colours look best.

Well done! Very nice, and I agree that the plain part enhances the lace.

Your new jumper is very attractive, Bernadette. It's a nice combination of stitch patterns and keeping the body plain shows them off well.

I love the sleeves, with the cables/lace/seed stitch - just gorgeous. And the plain body really sets them off. Beautiful, beautiful!

These are lovely but do you think it's worth knitting in Acrylic yarn? I used to do it for our boys, for fun and cheapness, but they always stretched and they'd refuse to wear such baggy things.

I don't get the choice, Mary.

Anything with wool in it and I come up in a blister rash. I am allergic to a few things such as penicillin, any blue cheese or Stilton, some red pigments in lipstick and anything with lanolin.

Last time I had a bad reaction the doctor had problems getting my temperature below 104 so I avoid anything that is likely to cause sensitivity as he warned I would need hospitalising if it happened again. It is now about 15 years since I had such a bad reaction but I did look as though I'd done a dozen rounds with Mohammed Ali. My face and body were badly marked sinilar to bruising from the huge water blisters that erupted.

I've always used acrylic since polymers were first discovered and as long as I've washed the garments carefully (very cool) I've never had anything stretch out of shape yet - (fingers crossed). They also tumble dry beautifully.

I usually dry them outside on the wash line and when they're just damp pop them in the drier (low heat) for 10 minutes. After the initial press they don't need pressing ever again.
